Hey all :)

Stopped by OcUK today and spent some of my work bonus.

Parts are:

Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 Motherboard
Intel I7 2011 3930K Processor
16gb Patriot 2133mhz Ram
2 x 7970 Gigabyte Gfx Cards
Intel Thermal Solution Watercooler
250gb Samsung SSD
1TB Seagate HD
1000w XFX Pro Power Supply

All in a Bitfenix Shinobi XL case.

Spent the past few hours putting it all together and went for my first power on.

But all that happens is the fans spin up for a second then everything turns off. :o Been a while since I've built a PC so I hope I'm not missing anything rather noddy.

Got your 8 pin Cpu power connector properly seated, mobo 24 pin connector also properly seated and ram in the correct slots?
Any lights showing on the mobo?

strip it back to bare bones no hdd, DVD, 1 stick of ram, 1 GPU and make sure all power connections are in correctly.

Have just tried all of the above and still get the same result.

Removing my motherboard and reinstalling everything again. :)

try with just one graphic card installed and one stick of memory, try a few slots as not sure if it affects bootup with certain slots on x79

can also clear the cmos and try

Just refitted the motherboard with only the ram and the cooler connected.

Started fine :) Gonna build it up piece by piece now and see how it goes.

Sorry for the double post,

Got it all firing up now. But I'm not getting any output from any of my gfx cards. :( (Tried Single and Double cards)

I'm not using a PC Monitor, I'm using my 32 Inch Sharp TV connected by HDMI.

But this shouldn't make a difference right? :o

Its unlikely but I have used some older cheaper HDTV that refuse to display a picture until the machine hits Windows ..... do you have a spare PSU you could test a single card?

Afraid not, this is rather perplexing. Going to see if the Windows install DVD boots up and I see anything on screen.

Does your tv have DVI port? Try that or vga, your gpu might have dvi or display port to hdmi adaptor included try with that aswell

Well it doesn't boot into the windows installation. :(

I have a display port to HDMI adapter for my Macbook Pro, just tried that to no avail.

*edit*

Doesn't seem to be detecting my keyboard? Its not lighting up anyway.

I dont think you'll do anygood till you try n beg borrow another gpu to test with, then flash to the latest BIOS and try your 7970

I'm going to try and get hold of a basic pc monitor tomorrow and try and get it booted up and running and go from there. :)

I'm guessing this is a known problem then? Does anybody have any links to anything about it?

My google-fu is weak. :o

Ahh thanks :)

I'll see what I can do tomorrow, I'm on an RAF Base and the IT section may have something I can borrow.

it might have an old bios on the board from the factory and to support your newer gpu's would need a newer bios but you cant update till you get a working card installed

again im only guessing that its this but seems likely

Looking at the Gigabyte website they have updated versions of the Bios to fix "Compatibility issues".

I'll give OcUK a call tomorrow, I'm all for fixing it myself. But its what they recommended to me and they may not be aware of the problem.
