Hello,

Im looking at building the following:

Asus M5A99X EVO AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 PCI-Express ATX Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail

Asus ATI Radeon HD 6670 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Cooler Master Elite 335 Case - Black

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX)

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)

Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Does it look ok, this lot comes to the door for £401.00. Does anything look wrong?

It will be used as a general word, internet, photoshop and casual gaming.

Thanks
Bob

do you need a PSU or a DVD drive?
if you are planning on reusing your old ones, could you tell me the make and model of the PSU, and if the DVD drive uses an IDE cable (massive ribbon cable) or a SATA cable (small flat cable). if its IDE your going to need a new one as the AM3+ motherboards dont support IDE

for what you are doing the intel sandybridge and the llano A8 processors come to mind, with intel being preferable because of your photoshop work)

as it stands, this will end up being far better:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2400 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £146.99
1 x Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION ** £70.98
1 x Asus ATI Radeon HD 6670 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £59.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT51264BA160A) £43.19
1 x Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black £37.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) £30.98
Total : £403.62 (includes shipping : £11.25).

*edit*
changed graphics card because original one looked to be worse than yours

hopefully stulid can come and give a better recommendation on a graphics card for ~£60, but thats where im really struggling right now. the cheapest graphics card i know to be good for the money is the OEM nvidia GTX 460, but thats out of your price range for sure.

i was very surprised to see the 9800GT having a lower passmark score than the 6670, but i cant find any other comparisons

hi thanks for the advice. I will need the psu and DVD as my existing ones are well past it. the psu is only 230w! I was looking at an and system since it appeared to offer better value. my budget is 400 Max. I will be looking to overclock in the future at some point.

right now intel stomps all over AMD no matter what price point your looking at. the i3 2100 beats the more expensive phenom X4 955, and even the cheapest i5 sandybridge processor beats everything AMD can throw at it.

if you have £400 to spend then something like this is the best i can do:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £99.98
1 x Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION ** £70.98
1 x Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black (with 500w Elite Power PSU) £64.99
1 x Asus ATI Radeon HD 6670 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £59.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT51264BA160A) £43.19
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) £30.98
1 x LiteOn IHAS124-19 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99
Total : £401.21 (includes shipping : £11.75).

again, not so sure about the graphics card. i'll wait for the green light from stulid

Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION **

Asus ATI Radeon HD 6670 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card

OcUK Battle 550W Dual Rail High Efficiency Modular Power Supply

Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller - Black

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX)

New spec, thanks for the advice, intel definatly the way to go. What do you think to the above, this is at the top end of my budget £476 delivered. I've gone for the i5 k type for overclocking at some stage. Is there anything else i will need to buy? Anyone have this case?

Thanks
Bob

A Branded Power Supply, Antec, Coolermaster and Corsair would be my reccomendations.
