Assembled everything properly and securely and powered it up for the 1st time, it said onscreen that the graphic card was in the wrong slot (it was in the bottom one, i never really paid much attention to which slot it went in) so i turned it all off and put it in the very first slot, which is the master one.
Then, the post indicator display showed error A0. I reset the CMOS and started it up again, this time it showed error 7F. A0 isn't in the troubleshooting manual, but 7F is:
Switch back to text mode if full screen logo is supported
- If errors occur, report errors & wait for keys
- If no errors occur or F1 key is pressed to continue: Clear EPA or customization logo
That doesn't really mean much to me in terms of how to fix it.
The keyboard and mouse are both USB, however I dug out an old PS/2 keyboard and connected it up, when it gets to the 7F error I pressed F1 and it showed FF which is a successful POST as far as I know.
The usb keyboard and mouse did not appear to be getting any power, as the leds were not lit.

Also, as I mentioned before when I first powered it up everything worked fine and the bios screen showed up fine on my monitor. Now, nothing at all is outputted. The DVI connectors are all in properly and the 2 6pin power connectors are both connected.
The ATX4P1 is also connected up to the PSU.

Theres a red LED which is on all the time, looking in the manual it's the 5VSB led which is lit.

I've taken out 1 stick of memory, started it up and same error. Repeated the process removing the other stick, gfx card, cd-rom ide, hdd sata and still getting the A0 error.

I would have thought that the processor is seated correctly seeing as it booted up the first time, the bios screen showed the clock speed etc and it also showed 2gb memory total from the 2 sticks.

I'm still not sure exactly what the problem is.

My OP says that I used a PS/2 keyboard however this did not solve anything as there was nothing displayed on the screen.

Yes. When I use the reset bios switch on the back of the mobo, the A0 error magically fixes itself until the next reboot. However there's still the problem of the 7F error and the fact nothing is displayed on the screen. Not to mention I don't want to keep resetting the bios everytime I restart.

Hmmm

What I would do is

1) remove both sticks of ram, power on, and see if u get the memory beeps.
2) Remove your graphic's card, and reseat it.

Those codes mean nothing to me, but you could try the m/b out of the case.
I'm sure your cpu is fine, it's hard trying to fix something many miles away.

I would also try another graphic's card, because if the graphic's card is broken it would give the same fault, if it was removed. (not seeing it when it's installed hence the error code)

I couldn't find a definitive answer to what the A0 error code is myself, it's not referenced in the mobo manual. 7F is and the explanation is in my first post, however it offers little to no help whatsoever.

OK, well I swapped the 8800GTX over with my 7600GT and I still got the A0 error on a fresh power up, no bios resets or anything. But I reset the bios and it booted up to the bios screen fine. Same message about the graphics card being in the wrong slot but luckily no 7F error.

So, I think it's probably something to do with the 8800. The fan spins up and everything. I don't know. I guess it's a start.

Triple post, sorry. The 7600GT is in the right slot (doh) and everything boots up with no errors at all.
I guess i'll use my 7600 for a few days then get an 8800GT.

Turns out I still get the A0 error when I restart. Boots up normally when I reset the bios but that's not really a feasible solution every time I want to restart.
