My new pc build consists of.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+
Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra mobo
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit
Geforce PCX6600 256mb PCI-E
Seasonic S12 500W Silent ATX2.0 PSU
Pioneer DVR-109
Western Digital Raptor 36.7GB SATA
Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 200GB SATA
2x Samsung 250gb spinpoints

The problem is that when powering up the pc will abruptly turn off. This can happen at any time. But once windows has actually booted it can stay on for hours. With exception it has once turned itself while running windows after a few hours otherwise it has stayed on. To get it to power on it i have may take anywhere up to 10 times to stay on.

I've tested with only the mobo/cpu/ram/psu/gcard connected and the problem still exists. I briefly tested with an old 380W psu without hard drives and dvdrw and with this setup the power stayed on.

Could this problem be the PSU or the motherboard not retaining the power? Or even the power switch/cable from the case being faulty.

Any possible explanations will be great as i'm looking at RMAing the component which is causing this problem.
