Hi there,
Putting together a cheap pc for a friend.

Asus M2N-E
AMD 3500+
Geil 2x512MB PC5300

Powers on, fans spin, but powers off after a few seconds. Got it set up outside of the case with just the CPU and one stick of RAM connected. Tried a different PSU but it still powers off.

Anyone got any ideas what might be causing this?
Faulty motherboard?

Thanks, Simon.

Make sure the connection between the CPU and the cooler is good and that you've used a good quality thermal compound. Make sure that the cooler is pressed down tightly to the CPU.

Failing that try reseating everything. If that doesn't work then it could be a bad mobo. If you can try to hook up a case speaker to the motherboard and see what kind of beeps you get at the start.

Thanks,
I am using the stock cooler with the pre-applied thermal paste, seems like a tight fit. I will try hooking up a speaker and resetting the CMOS when I get home tonight. :)
