Morning all

Just finished my first water loop do decided to torture test in Prime95 to see how things are. I have a gigabyte z68xp-ud4 board with a i5 2500k and 8gig of vengeance ram all at stock speeds. I ran prime95 test and after about 3 hours CPU-z showed max temp on any core reached 52degs.

Does this seem ok for stock speeds or a little high?

Many thanks

Ray

I currently have a 360 xspc rad with 3 120mm xilence fans mounted in top pulling the air through the rad. I have a Laing D5 pump with top and a 150 cylinder res. filled with about 3/4ltr of mayhems pure h20. All this is purely cooling a single CPU block.

I must admit none of my tunes or the rad was getting the slightest bit warm during torture testing.

Any ideas???

1st thing i would do is put fresh paste on and reseat the waterblock then if aint any better make sure you aint got any air trapped in the rad

What method of tp application would you recommend for the 2500k? I tried the thin layer spread but not too sure about it

my 2500k is hitting 45 -50 at stock speeds after 10 mins lol I think it just needs paste though as I just put the waterblock on the new chip with the remaining tp

Yeah I tried to spread it thinly but not too easy with certain pastes. Antecs new one seems very thick and sticky. May just try a pea size blob in the middle and try again tonight

What is your stock voltage when running prime95? Ambient temp? Small FFT or blend test?

My watercooling loop is 35-42 with prime95 depending on ambient and whether its small fft or blend. Voltage is 1.18v

With 1.34v it reaches 48-52 or mid 50's with intel burn test.

I've just used the Gigabyte Autotune to get the chip running at 4.2Ghz with a VID of 1.3811v.

Ive been running FFT for the last three hours and I am maxing 64, 64, 66 and 62 degrees respectively across the four cores.

??? Still seems a little high.

I presume these temps would be expected with a standard aftermarket aircooler maybe???

VID usually isn't accurate. Run cpu-z to find the voltage

If its really at 1.38v then the temps are a bit high but if your ambient is high 20's then they seem pretty normal.

You're right, sorry I was writing from memory. CPU-Z shows the voltage at 1.118v with a clock speed of around 4.21ghz. Ran all night fft and max recorded on 2 of the cores was 68 and the other two 65.

Well I just removed the cpu block, cleaned the old tp off and reapplied using the line down the middle. Refitted the block and ran fft again. 1hr in and my temps are already lower. Not gone above 49degs on any core. Admittedly it is a little cooler here today but still an improvement I would say???

I also noticed that when I laid my case on its side to refit the tp, I could here lots of gurgling and my res filled to the top (normally only sits half full). Then when I say it upright and turned on, I could here the water rushing/sploshing through the rad and the res dropped back down to around the halfway mark.

DOes this mean I have a lot of air in my loop??? If so, any advice on how to fully fill it as I imagine this cant help with the temps
