Just setup my new pc and im cpu is posting at 466 (7*66)

Its a conroe 6300 and a gigabyte ds3 with 2 gig of geil ram.

Tried setting fsb speeds manually but it insists on booting at 466.

Any ideas?

Martin.

maybe theres an issue with the sensor,
or maybe the IHS is not fitted correctly (doubt it)
have you used the correct amount of thermal paste?

also, can you boot to windows and check your details in CPU-z?

Was using the stock pad to test before, need to pick up some artic silver tomorrow. Just lifted the heatsink and only half was making contact. I think theres little plastic rister round some mobo components getting in the way :(

Martin.

Isnt there an issue with this mobo where you need to update the BIOS with a different processor on board to enable the conroe chips to work? Or am i thinking of something else entirely different and talking pure un-adulterated tosh?

maybe, but I think that board is already Core Duo compatable.

pics?

I'll get some pics in a bit, i'm not so sure anything is being impeded now. I held the heatsink down tight unclipped and its doing the same thing (its deff making good contact now)
When I power on psu/fans come on, then they silence as if restarting :| i'm miffed.

Well its not doing the reset thing now theres better contact on the heatsink, still about 50 idle which isn't great of course.

Still posting at 7*66 (466)

any ideas?

(im gonna cry)

After all this time it was a simple bios revision. I should really learn to check these things before going in head first. I'm suprised with this being such a comment setup that no one warned me.

Cheers.

I think you're talking about the Asus P5W DH Deluxe :p.

Even Asus themselves sent me a new bios but with a wrong version! So glad I was able to get a refund and buy a new P5W with the correct version.... but that is dead now too
