Hello, Ive just put together my new build, an e8500 on a p5e deluxe on first start it reports that the cpu is unidentified, needs a bios update and overheating, bios shows the temp at exactly 100/212.
Obviously I was worried and turned it off, cooler looks mounted ok, appears to be flush with the cpu. all 4 pins have locked down, fan running.
So is this really overheating or is it related to the non recognised cpu? or something else

yeah paste pre-applied and fan running.

It gets to 100 degrees instantly there's no movement at all on the temp sensor, but its not comforting to see.

on the asus forum there are people with other random temps as well, a guy thats at 87 all the time weather idling or hardcore gaming. Is bios updating in windows not safe?

Although on post it says it doesnt recognise the cpu in bios its happy that its an e8500 and sets the clock right, would the stepping make a difference?

Allways makes me nervous doing the bios, its like an invitation for the power to fail. but if I must.

I do have the old revision so at least something to try

Yeah that EZ Flash is good actually felt quite safe compared to praying to the power gods and wondering how reliable a 10 year old floppy drive and disk are.
