New Build Problem

Recently asked for a build spec on here for a friend for an i5 skylake system. He then decided to go for a different i7 build that he got speced elsewhere but bought from OC - rang me last night to tell me it wasn't working. I went round and we took everything out and just hooked up the motherboard, cpu (checked thermal paste), custom cooler, 1 x ram dimm, power switch header and hard drive (components into PSU where required obviously and complying with motherboard instructions).

Issue is motherboard lights up but wont power on, nothing powers on not even the CPU cooler. I can hear a click from the PSU at certain times but that's the lot. My plan is to bring my PSU round to his tonight to test if its faulty but in the mean time wondered if anyone on here had any advice for this? Below are the components.

Intel 6700k

Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Intel Z170 1151 free cooler

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2400MHz

EVGA Supernova GS 650W '80 Plus Gold'

Samsung Evo 500gb SSD

In my limited experience even if there was an issue with connections or some bad building usually there is some form of life from the system when the power button is pressed then it quickly powers down but nothing in this case just lights on the MB.

Any advice be appreciated :)

check all the PSU cables, make sure they are securely connected to the motherboard (24 pin and 8 pin) and to the GPU as well.

try the system with 1 stick of ram in if it fails again try with the other stick and then try a different memory slot.

remove the GPU and try the on board gpu instead, see if it boots then

Brought my whole rig round to his and tried to power my rig with his PSU and it worked fine, then tried to power his motherboard of my PSU and same problem as before. The motherboard is switching the PSU and case fans etc on if the CPU is present but the CPU cooler never comes on, cant feel any heat from the CPU ever. There aren't even any error beeps coming from the motherboard to say there is an issue it just seems dead to me but its hard to tell as everything is silent heatsinks on the board. The motherboard and CPU both have their respective power cables hooked up correctly so out of ideas.

So i'm guessing its either the CPU or the motherboard? Maybe i should give OC a ring and see what they think, don't want to waste anyone's time but I am stumped with this

If you've successfully booted your computer from a different power supply and also replicated the fault with your power supply powering a different machine then clearly the problem is your power supply? Or have I missed something?

No my power supply is working fine as is my whole rig - it was just trial and error testing on the new components and we determined it wasn't the new PSU at fault, the new motherboard will neither function correctly of the new PSU or my PSU.

Its the board or bent pins.

Flashing wont help as it supported that CPU from day zero.

If you've also tried one stick of RAM at a time then thats about it.
