Hi I have just installed my new Gigabyte P35-DS3R and am having a world of problems.

System Specs:

Q6600
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
2Gb Geil 6400
2x 74Gb Raptors
X1900XT
Tagan 480W

To begin with no matter what drivers I use from *** CD and internet I cannot get the system to install Win XP past 11% (drivers.cab) when using my SATA hard drives in RAID or SATA mode. I can only use them as IDE mode. When I F6 during windows install it never shows the driver I am expecting (Intel(R) ICH9 SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH9R). When I decide not to use RAID but simply use SATA I get the same issue at 11% install!

After playing with the SATA drives for hours I decided to just go with IDE mode for them (I assume at a performance penalty). Windows installs fine. The problem I seem to have now is with voltages. The computer will randomly turn off and caused me to look at Speedfan / Motherboard monitor etc. Here I have noticed that the +12v is showing as only being 2.18v!! This cant be a good thing!?

Is my 480W PSU not up to the job? Have I simply plugged the wires in wrong!?!?! Although I don't see how this could mess up the Windows install?

Any help / advice would be great.

Thanks in advance

If your computer has not booted it, then you have plugged in the right wires. I know is some cases you have to give the ram a bit more volts to get them working sufficently. Try to install windows with one stick of RAM. And that 480 might be on the weak side.

If windows is crashing up, try copying the /i386 onto a partion for example and run it from that. The CD might be dirty or something.

I have just ran Prime95 and noticed that the +12v actually increased to 6.34v from 2.18v

If my PSU was not powerful enough surely it wouldn't be able to eek out the extra 4v??

Lol, mate. if your 12v rail is that low, i don't think you will still be able to type and browse the forum.

maybe you should try updating the bios for your mobo.

speed fan gives me the same readings. I just overclock anyway lol and im on stock cooling ahaha :P

Don't use speedfan for the 12v, it's WRONG!! On your motherboard cd, load the gigabyte util for reading the correct voltage.

Ok I have installed Gigabyte EasyTune and it shows all my voltages to be correct so hopefully I can eliminate that problem.

Whilst in Easytune I noticed that the "System Temperature" is running at around 40-42c. This is a lot hotter that the CPU itself, is this normal?

Tried to overclock ever so slightly from 2.4Ghz to 2.5Ghz and after a short amount of time the system reboots.

Right, In the bios.

Set your memory to +.2V
Set graphic's to 101
Multi x9
fsb 333
Memory dividers 2.0 (1:1)
Make sure memory is not on turbo, set to normal
set vcore to 1.3 ish
FSB .01
MCH .01

try that.

Thanks Servo, Iam no longer getting random resets (yet!) CPU temps go up to a max of 47 according to CoreTemp.

Now I need to try and sort out why the SATA RAID drivers do not work so I can finally get my hard drives working properly.

okay get the raid drivers on a floppy disk.

Boot the windows setup press f6, and load the drivers off the floppy, you need to load both sets of drivers.

Right well It is all nearly fixed now. After some googling I have discovered that the ICH9R chip on this board are riddled with problems, especially with RAID. I have moved to the Gigabyte RAID controller instead and all seems to be working great now.

Have had one more random reboot which seemed to be solved by stopping CoreTemp from loading each time XP boots...

Will need to do some more stress testing I guess!
