Morning all, I'm just trying to setup my dad's new PC and I'm having some problems. I've got a SATA cdrom and hard drive connected to a Asus P5B Deluxe board, both detect fine in the bios and everything else seems to check out okay. I've set the boot priority as CD > HDD however when I pop in the XP CD (which definitely does work) I get the following error message:

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

Any suggestions? I'm really at a loss as to what it could be...

Cheers :]

When your booting up press the button for BBS (I think its F8) to bring up the boot menu then select your CD drive.

I have heard of some people having a problem installing Vista from a SATA CD drive. if you are able, fit an IDE optical drive and try installing from that.
When the install is complete, take out the IDE CD drive and replace it with the SATA Drive
Good luck
Edit sorry saw that it is XP your trying to install. Give it a go anyway
