new build problems

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz

corsair 520 psu

1st: twice I have had to clear cmos to get rid of the error (cpu unworkable or changed)

2nd: when try to install vista I have had to connect a PS2 keyboard! usb keyboard wasn't working when asking to press any to boot from cd/dvd! but i was able to get into the bios with the usb keyboard.

3rd: when installing vista load the stand vista pic but then take about 4/5mins to get to the gui (where you select what language you wanna use etc)
the pc just sits there doing nothing, dvd stops spinning and 4/5mins later it kicks in again. tested the disc, dvd drive and cable on my old my and it works as normal.

taken from bios:

+12v = 12.08v
+3.3v + 3.28v

gonna up the RAM voltage and try it again!

my ram had to be at 2.1v irc.
Dont know much on your mobo but my old abit had an option to enable USb in bios/OS Choose Bios if its set to OS and vice verser.
 
ok got vista installed...

All i did what disconnect the mains from the PSU and enable the jumper to clear cmos, left it for 30mins, set jumper back to normal and vista installed without any issues!

I have never had to clear the cmos on a fresh build. I had already done it twice, but I only left the jumper on clear cmos for 30secs and I didn't remove mains from the psu.

is this normal for abit boards? never had abit, always had msi or gigabyte
 
personally i think it might be a one off, but like you said i have only used asus and gigabyte and to date (crosses fingers) i have never had any serious trouble on a new build

thinking about giving OcUK a call and telling them about the problem I had, just to see what they say! The "cpu unworkable or changed" that I had twice has not returned after clearing the cmos for 30mins...

what do you guys think?
 
Apparently that error means the BIOS needs upgrading to the latest version to fully support newer CPU's. Tried that? (Dont do it in Windows though ;))

haven't tried that because the PC is working at the moment! just dont wanna have a problematic new PC.. bit worrying that it said cpu unworkable or changed.
