Hello all, wasnt sure where to put this so into general hardware it went.
A friend of mine is attempting her first build and surprise surprise she ran into an issue with her RAM/Mobo.

Specs:

CPU - i5-4460 3.2GHz
Motherboard -Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H ATX LGA1150
Memory - Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1866
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Case - NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
PSU - Corsair CX 500W 80+B

her motherboard lists her memory slots as 4231
she has tried the following combinations:
1 works
2 works
1+2 no
3+4 no
1+3 no
2+4 no
3 no
4 no
so unless she has single channel in slots 1 or 2 the pc just starts then turns off instantly.
I asked her to enter bios with 1 stick in to try and enable xmp ( my housemate suggested it, i was oblivious) . Im not really an expert by any means so any help would be much appreciated, i dont know if im missing something obvious or if its just simply a motherboard fault.

Sounds like a motherboard problem, but run memtest on the ram to check.

Could be faulty ram slots.

Try resetting the bios using the motherboard jumper.

Press Del key at start up and check all bios settings for ram, voltage, timings etc.

Try flashing the bios (press end key at startup logo screen to enter qflash).

Is the CPU installed correctly, no bent pins?

If all else fails, I would RMA the board for testing.
