Hi all, so I got a new pc, my first build, the parts are what Honosuseri recomended on this post

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=22953089#post22953089

So I put it all together, the first thing that happens after I plug it in is a smallish spark comes out of the PSU and the power cuts out in the house. All this while the I/O switch is set to O so by my reckoning there shouldn't have been any power going into the PC anyway...

It's quite possible that I made a mistake given that it's my first build, but as far as I can tell everything is plugged in correctly. Could it have been a faulty PSU and is it likely to have damaged my other componants

edit: subsequent attempts to turn it on resulted in what seemed to be normal operation, the case fans all turn on, the GPU fans come on, the dvd drive opens/closes, the HDD indicator comes on etc. However there appears to be no output to my monitor and no beep code has played.

Remove the GFX card and connect the monitor to the motherboard directly.

Is there a picture?

Check both your 24pin motherboard connection and 8pin 12v (CPU power) connections. Also make sure to reset the CMOS.
