new build query

i have noticed on my motherboard i have an 8 pin and 4 pin power connectors do i need to have an 8 pin and 4 pin power supply for that or is it a case of 8 pin psu goes in the 8 pin and 4 pin only psu goes in the 4 pin???

or are there specific psus that have both to connect? motherboard in question is a gigabyte z87x-oc

You be fine with just the 8 pin connected.

If you were looking at extreme overclocking (LN2 Cooling) then people tend to use the extra 4 pin.

its in the project logs under proteus iv. save me writing twice lol. psu i was recommended was a seasonic one but its the only thing i have not had a proper look into until i researched properly. then i noticed the connectors on the motherboard. im quite tempted by another xfx psu but noticed oc dont sell them anymore

yeah that was the one that was suggested i think i will go with that. anyway my next problem has arose already
