I have a Dell Studio D540 - I really just want more ram and a better processor, but current board won't take more than 8GB, and it's about 7 years old.

For lots of graphic design software (adobe) etc (not games) I was looking at the Dell Precision 7910 - but I just need the board and power supply, not the whole machine. So I was thinking it would be cheaper to just buy a 7910 motherboard (takes up to 64GB), processor and power supply separately and fit them in, and then I can buy as much RAM as I like (prob 32GB).

I guess my question is, is this feasible? The existing machine's network card, graphic card and so on should be swappable?
