Mobo - Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz
Whats the "125W Edition" mean specifically? just use's less power from the psu?

Ram - Geil Black Dragon 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Triple Channel
Im assuming this is compatible with my Mobo.

Graphics -Either the ATI HD4850 or the Geforce 470
Not sure which one to go with anyone able to convince me either way? looking at around £2-230 Pounds budget

HDD - Samsung SpinPoint F2 EcoGreen 1.5TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
Not sure on the hdd either im looking for a big 1tb+ hdd fast for windows/games etc and looking at around 50-70 pounds maximum!

I have the rest ready and waiting but i am just a bit miffed as to whether i will need a new power supply at the moment i have a 500Watt Ultra Xconnect Modular power supply and wonder whether this will be good enough to power the machine ofc i am also looking at overclocking the cpu to 4000mhz which im guessing will require more power also? So will I need a new PSU?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I am also looking at doin the buying in two parts Mobo/Cpu/Ram/HDD first then Gfx Card and possibly PSU if i need to upgrade it.

Will my 500Watt PSU be sufficient to run
8800 GTX Geforce

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz

Hello and welcome to the forums :)

The ram is ideally suited for i7 series which require triple channel memory, you will need to look for dual channel.

Hard Drive I would look at the Samsung F3 1TB.

GPU wise I would look at 460 series.

CPU, The 965 used to be higher power, have a look at the 955.

blimey don't know where to start.

firstly a triple channel memory kit is for i7 systems, you want a dual channel kit.

pick the 955CPU, its basically identical to a 965, apart from 200mhz, which is easily reclaimed due to the unlocked multiplier, so all you need to do in the bios is increase this by +1

4850 or GTX470? you couldn't pick two more different cards if you tried, get the 470.

the F2 samsungs are slow as hell, unless its just for backups, or you have a SSD as your main drive.

RJC's spec looks vnice nope atm i have a Xclio Windtunnel which should be sufficient for that thanks a lot for your help guys i will more than likely be going with the spec/gear RJC has posted will keep you updated!

hey thanks jony i was wondering if you had 650pound budget what you lot would get (PSU/Graphics Card/CPU/Mobo/Ram/HDD)! Cheers guys

well sadly i dont have £650 atm but probably something similar RJC build but only with a phenom x2 555and a 4890 as i would be needing a new monitor but thats just me.

I have put 2 Samsung drives in, you may want to change to one and buy a after market cooler for the cpu.

I would pretty much spend on what I speced, might of spent extra on the 470 gpu, part from that not a lot.

I think you may be in luck as it does support AM2 which hopefully someone can confirm is the same mountain bracket / mechanism as AM3.

Yep after a bit of research i have came to that conclusion also RJC and if it doesnt work as intended i will just use the stock one till i get a better cooler! thanks
