Gaming PC?

What will you have stored on the HDD, as the green's aren't as quick as the black/blue versions, they're primarily for storage imo.

Everything looks good.

Doesn't look bad at all. I'd upgrade the PSU to something a bit more powerful and from a different brand. Never makes sense to skimp on the PSU.

Ah thanks that was an oversight on the WD green's.

Straight swap out for

Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST3000DM001) HDD (roughly same price)

should do the trick?

PSU, any recommendations?

Would something like this be better?

Corsair Builder Series CX 600w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020060-UK)

This is probably a stupid question but i just wanted to double check..

The Cpu cooler is listed as such :-

Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1150 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2). Clearly states 1150.

But in the full specifications bit it says this..

Intel Socket 775;1155;1156;1366;2011;

No mention of 1150 there. I noticed some other coolers also have 1150 in title but not in specification. Is this going to work with the mb/cpu listed above?

1150 uses the same mounting holes as sockets 1155 and 1156.

Edit: The WD Green drives are fine for playing games off. I have a 2TB one and have not encountered any issues playing games off it. (Apart from having to wait a few seconds when starting a games while the drive spins up)

Well i thought i would post an update since you all are so helpful.

Ordered 5.30pm Monday, delivered 9.30am Tuesday, awesome service :)

Build went slow, but remarkably well. Everything started up beautifully and the build has been running a full day now with no problems. Going to be OC'ing things today, not that its really needed, everything runs on max setting anyway.

The only thing i had an issue with was the 3gb HD. Basically i installed both my SSD (boot drive) and 3gb HD from the beginning. During installation of Windows 7 a 100mb system reserve partition was being created on the 3gb drive. This caused a problem because you have to do a GPT partition on 3gb HD's and the option for that is greyed out if some of the drive is in use.

So the easy solution was to unplug the 3gb HD while installing windows 7. Then the system reserved space was made on the SSD instead. It was simple to plug in the 3gb drive later and then do the GPT partition thing.

That's it, so much easier than i expected. Thanks guys/OC'ers!)

This is the first time i've had an SSD so its hard to say how good the samsung one is, however its a huge difference in windows/program load times. It's clearly a nice thing to have but it would probably be the first thing off my list if i wanted to save money. Saving 10-15 seconds is lovely but on reflection it probably isn't that much worth it.

All the stuff above cost £930. I got a 3gb samsung HD, not WD and 650w XFX psu not the 550w one above. I had also previously bought a 7950 for £250 so that's a total build (inc new monitor) of £1180.

Hmm, I've always found SSD's very useful for game load times, but my other one was too small to have as boot drive and WoW on it :(

Oh there's no doubting it's nice to be so fast but i find it quite hard to think of any real situation where being a few seconds faster to load is actually that useful. For example, i play a lot of TF2 and mmorpg's and while its going to be lovely being the first person to load a new map/dungeon whatever, the reality is you still have to wait for everyone else anyway. Its not like load times are slow with a new high end build, hence why i struggle to see the real need for an SSD. If you've got the spare money they are great, if you are building a new build on a budget, i would leave it out. Just IMO =)
