Hey guys, my current E6600 @ 3.46 GHz rig is still plenty good, but with so many new technologies available today, I figured it was time to upgrade. Here's what I'm thinking of getting:

CPU: Core i7 2600-K
MB : Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7
HS : Thermalright Silver Arrow
Goo: Arctic Silver 5
RAM: 2x 4GB Patriot Viper Xtreme DDR3-2000 CAS 9
GPU: 2x MSI N580GTX Overclocked
SSD: 2x 256GB Crucial C300
Brac: Silverstone SDP08
HDD: 2TB Seagate Barracuda XT
3TB Hitachi Deskstar
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate OEM

I'll be using my existing CoolerMaster Stacker 830 Case with 1200 watt PSU, Bluray / HD-DVD drives, Soundblaster Audigy2 card, 24" Dell LCD, Keyboard and mouse.

Anybody know about any specific issues I may face? I am a little concerned that the Silver Arrow will not let me shut my case's swing-out fan panel, because my existing Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme makes it quite a squeeze and I've read that the Silver Arrow is 6mm higher (because of the large caps at the ends of the heat pipes). Any body using the Silver Arrow in a CM Stacker 830 case?

Also I'm concerned that the RAM may not fit below the Silver Arrow. Anybody using that Patriot memory with a Silver Arrow?

I'm hoping to be able to hit 4.5GHz or more with this set-up.

Why not keep the Thermalright? It's a cracking cooler.

With all that money you're spending, I'd be tempted to get a 120Hz monitor and have a crack at 3D. You're aware your system is massive overkill, right?

Also, the i5-2500K reportedly clocks higher and is better for gaming than the i7-2600K, so unless you're folding or something, I'd go for the i5 instead.

@hybrid: I'm planning on using the bits from the current system for my desktop at my parents' place, so I'll be keeping the Ultra 120 extreme on the current motherboard. As for 3D, I'm really not into it at all, or I might look into that. And yeah, I realise the system is way over the top, but that's how I tend to do it, build a new rig once every 3-4 years and get the very best I can so that I'm still reasonably happy with it 3-4 years down the line and am not constantly itching to tinker and upgrade.

@Lemin: Are you suggesting that RAM because it runs @ less than 1.65V, or is it because the heat spreader is smaller and it will, therefore, be a better fit under the Silver Arrow? The link you showed was talking about vRAM being an issue on Sandybridge motherboards.

Thanks for the replies guys. Open to any other comments or suggestions.

Edit: P.S. I read that Intel now supports TRIM on RAID setups. Is that correct? Will there be a problem running the two SSDs RAID 0 as a boot device?

Just took a look at Gigabyte's website to see which memory modules they had tested on the motherboard. I'm thinking of getting this RAM now

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH

It's DDR3-1600 CAS7.

Again, I'm wondering if the slightly tallish heat spreaders will cause a problem fitting under the Silver Arrow.

Thanks for that Aretenon! I read somewhere that the edges of the RAM heatsinks are 40mm and the centre is 38mm. Wow...that would make it a squeeze, but it SHOULD fit! :D

I would just get RAM with low profile heatspreaders as then you will know it will fit ok.

Plus if you are not overclocking the memory i don't think you will need big heatspreaders.
