New Build Reboots

Hi all, 2 months on from my new build and I'm still having problems, and now need advice..

My rig is

Abit AW9D-Max (latest Bios15)
Intel QX6700
4gb Crucial Ballistix PC6400 (4x 1gb)
BFG 8800 GTX OC (158.24 drivers)
Enermax Infiniti 720W
Vista Home Premium Retail (running 64bit at the moment)

I was getting random reboots (no BSOD)and the M/board was replaced, which seemed to fix the problem, then I found that I was getting reboots when the PC was doing some hard work, Like playing BF2 and FSX. I get reboots after about 10-15 minutes.

I've contacted OC tech support and they advised me to Memtest the ram, which I did with all sticks installed and Memtest froze after about 20 minutes.
I then tried each stick individually and it passed every stick, (1 pass)

Back to tech support who then told me to run CPUburn to check my CPU. This gave no problems and I've also tried Prime95 for about an hour and also have no problems.

I thought it might be a heat issue but all my temps seem fine.

The above problems occur (reboots with no BSOD) with Vista 32bit, Using 64 Bit will sometimes give a BSOD stating that "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor withing the allocated time", but also reboots with no BSOD when playing games.

Tech support are now suggesting I RMA my G/card direct to BFG but the only BFG site I can find is the USA one with no information on how to RMA. I don't want to send it to the States, it would be cheaper to by a new card.

Has anyone got any other ideas before I do send it back..
I really would appreciate your help..

Steve

sending stuff for RMA to bfg isnt to the states, the got a HQ in wales (no contact there though), if you send a email to the american guys, they will ask you to send a email with certain information to the wales guys which will then get you a RMA, but i think they got a backlog atm, as i sent a mobo on monday and still havnt heard a thing even though it arrived on tuesda morning (love royal mail recorded delivery, the signature copy proves they got it on the 26th)

so thats fine, but as for the problem solving without RMA, i would suggest what ocuk have suggested, run the nvidia control panel stress test purely for your gpu and see what happens

Thanks for the reply agnes,
GPU test only on Nvidia stability test runs OK for the default 10 min test, I will try it for 20 and see what happens.

You do know that Ballistix ram needs 2.2v rather than the DDR standard 1.8v?

I had all sorts of stability problems with my new C2D build using Ballistix PC5300 until I upped the DDR voltage to 2.2v.

Keep reading the thread title as 'Build new robots'.

Sorry, that is all, am off to bed, goodnight.

I've now installed vista 32 and just keep getting reboots about 5 minutes into BF2. (also had one when I tried to view event manager)

I thought it might be my router, but its the same playing single player with my router disconnected.

Can a my graphics card be causing these reboots..I even installed rivatuner so I could set the fan at 100% and still no luck? I'm thinking it's the motherboard again, or PSU, trouble is I have no spares I can test with as my old system was AMD skt 939 and AGP..

I was going to install XP again, but just realised that my replacement M/Board didn't come with any floppies, so no SATA drivers!!!!!
The ones I downloaded from ABIT didn't work..

I'm losing it here. £1600+ of bits that won't work together....

Any other suggestions

Cheers

Steve

the sata drivers should be on the cd or on the internet with a makedisk program to make floppies... if you arent running raid you shouldnt need it anyway.

have you tried using 1 stick of Ram only?
BIG EDIT (just remembered something):
you where running memtest from windows right? it cant be this if it works when booting off a cd, but have you tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777
it might be the glitch in vista where you have to install that patch or it crashes with more than 3gb of memory. thats all i can think of because it seems all memory sticks are ok if the system works ok with just 1. although if you had more than 3gb during the installation you got lucky, but still try it :D

I don't need sata drivers for vista, but I do for XP..
The ones I downloaded didn't work, XP only found one 138gb drive, as opposed to my 300 partitioned to 40/260.

Memtest was booted from cd.
This happens with one stick installed.

That would explain why I had to install the RAID drivers before on the previous board...thanks.

I'll try installing XP it again, but without the partitions.

Steve

XP won't install...It gets through the first stage, loading files etc, but when it reboots it goes back to the first stage asking for raid drivers again.

One thing I've noticed is, when I get these reboots(vista 32 now in case you've all lost me) I get no error reports, like "windows has recovered from a serious error....blah blah blah we think the reason is this.....)

Don't know if that means anything.

What's the chances of having 2 faulty mobo's here...? This thing is rebooting when I surf the net so I really don't think it's my graphics card.

Memtest freezes when all 4 sticks are installed. but testing each stick individually gives no errors... (makes me think motherboard)

OR PSU or CPU..??

I'm getting to the point that I'm going to have to spend another £500 on components just to test this rig out..

HELP....

Steve

Edit: just remembered I ran Prime95 for over an hour before and it was fine, so that just leaves PSU or motherboard doesn't it..?

UPDATE

Bought an Asus P5K Deluxe, running with no problems at all for the last week..

Overclockers are giving me a refund on my 2nd AW9D.

It seemed like a nice board, strange to have 2 duff ones though..
