Hey all

just wondering if its possible to build a slow computer sounds silly but my new build seams laggy and slow what could be the cause?

Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) -
XFX HD 6870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB
Samsung Green 16GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual Channel
Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 500W psu

running windows 7 ultimate

ive done a disk check it found a few things and fixed them but made the lag worse it now takes 30 - 40 mins to complacently load and become responsive even though it only boots windows and kaspersky

cheers

Maybe its down to some software or anti virus taking up system resources ?

and how do you know it's only loading windows and kaspersky @ boot ?

Check task manager and see if anything stands out.

Maybe try a fresh install. Although i would recommend getting a SSD for that system.

ive looked in task manager and only things are booting is whats set in the start up config just cant understand why it would be such a pain the the bottom its not done anything as for resources i cant see how it would use 16gb ram 3.50ghz at boot without something making it it also has a 500w psu

dowloading the link now and giving that a blast and yea im looking in to ssds now

if you boot into safe mode does it run this slowly?

on boot up tap f8 repeatadily until advanced boot menu appears. use arrow keys to move up and down. sleetc safe mode and hit enter

Whats the psu?

is the psu

also its not just doing nothing on load apart from crashing thats if it dose boot if it dosent boot it just says bootmgr is missing when i do a disk repair it tells me that the disk is not the correct even though its the install disk...

Did you do a fresh install on the system after you built it? Installed all the drivers?

yes i installed all disks that were in any boxes

If you just installed windows not long ago and have no data to lose. I'd wipe windows and do another fresh install again. Then if it happens again after wiping and loading windows i would start to look at the physical hard disk itself being to blame.

P.S dont buy a SSD to fix this issue. if there is a problem with the hard disk its still going to be there even if you use it as a secondary drive. need to sort this problem out first.

i really do think its to blame as im geting bootmgr error on boot too now ive orderd me a ssd for firday so we shall see how do i go about doing a clean install is there any things to know or look out for?

A clean install will delete everything off your machine. EVERYTHING. so make sure you have stuff backed up you want saving.

go into bios, find boot menu. put your cd/dvd drive top the top of the boot menu. insert your win7 ult disk into dvd drive. reboot machine.

on bootup it will say press any key to boot from dvd disk. press a key.

Win7 will load. select language. click next.

click custom install.

click advanced options.

select your HDD, then click clean. then click delete.

select the 100mb partition , click clean, click delete.

should show as one partition to full size of your HDD.

select the hard disk , click next.

watch the magic happen.

make sure you haave all disk with drivers etc handy, or download the drivers from suppliers websites. put them on usb flash drive ready for install.

(ps above is off the top of my head, some option may be worded differently but you should be able to get the gist)
