Hi there,
Basically I recently decided to build a new setup as my old one was way past it.
Its been a while but was confident i could do it.
The hardware is as follows:

Ati Radeon hd4850
Gigabyte ga-ma770-ud3
Patroit viper 4gb ddr2 ram
amd athlon 2 x2 dual core 240
ocz stealthxstream 500w psu
samsung spinpoint f1 hdd

So i got it all up and running and my first boot was pretty unsuccseful (disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter). And on a few occasions the monitor would be fuzzy and display purple and green lines.
But i managed to install windows 7 and install drivers for the graphics card, motherboard and thats about it. After a short while though the monitor would go fuzzy again, turn on and off again and inform me that the 'ati driver has stopped responding and has recovered' (im para phraseing).

Now when i try to boot i get a fuzzy screen when it shows the initial motherboard page then it pretty much proceeds to go all funky with green and purple squares and just general ugliness. It no longer lets me get to the windows login screen, it just goes fuzzy purple again and reboots.

I'm guessing it could be a faulty graphics card, although i understand its more likely to be something I've done. I Forgot to plug the pci-e cable to the graphics card on one occasion, could that of affected anything??. (doubt it)

I will provide screenshots soon but any help in the meantime would be great.

Thank you very much in advance,

Jonny

Do you have another card you can stick in to test? Otherwise reseat the card, try the other display connection, reconnect the power plug.

post 1000 wahey!!

Hi there,
Thanks for the quick reply. I dont have another card to test unfortunately. I have tried reseating numerous times and have tried both display connections. Im using the vga to dvi connector that came with the graphics card if that has any significance (guessing not due to reboots and not even gaining access to windows login screen etc)

I will post images in a while so maybe they could help a bit.
Thanks again

Update: Turns out I did have a grpahics card to test, and it works fine..Guess I know the issue now then :/ Tried the 4850 again and the same issues, could this mean its faulty?

well if it worked fine with the other card, then its your 4850. your psu is more than adequate, and if it was that, then otherthing may be going pop as well.

RMA the 4850

Yep, as above, RMA the 4850. Should get a nice shiny new working card back :)

Oh and forgot to say, welcome to the forums :D
