lil worried about compatability with games etc last thing i want is to get the system set up and find that software doesnt work, also the vista advisor said it couldnt find drivers for my modem so im not sure

It all looks good although I'm not sure you need the PSU extension cables or the SATA dayglo cables since some will come with the motherboard (although plain). I'd also be tempted to drop the Raptors and save a bit of cash, either of the Seagate 7200.10 range or WD AAKS drives aren't far behind in speed terms but cost significantly less and offer a lot more space. With the money saved you could consider a faster graphics card. :)

it is something i considered but i always wanted to own raptors, omg that sounds so so sad but yeah i set my heart on raptors even thou they r pretty expensive

Don't let me put you off then, they are certainly quick and you will need a floppy disk drive for the Raid install in Windows as you suspect.

Just noticed one other thing also, you are probably better getting a SATA DVDRW, Samsung and NEC do good versions. :)

ah didnt kow such a thing existed but i'll go take a look at ocuk and see if i can find one chees for the tip

i have a question i only just thought of, i;ve never used sata before is it like ATA where u were better having certain things in certain sata ports?

if so which should i use for HD's and which for optical drive?

cheers

Loki

This is a suitable SATA DVDRW and you don't really need to worry about having them in the correct ports, SATA is one device per chain/port so it shouldn't matter which you use (unless of course Windows is determined not to find the SATA port in the first place). :)

Hi there, I moved over from using a 150gb & 74gb Raptor to the 500gb seagate 7200.10 & to be honest you wont be able to tell the difference in speed, overall in games your probally talking 2 seconds max at loading a game up - big deal eh? :)

As for sata dvd-drives, Pioneer have released a sata version hopefully will be stocked by OcUK see here:- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-047-PO, in my opinion they usually do the best drives but thats debatable of course, the majority of reputeable companys all do a good job at the end of the day.

I'm sticking with Windows XP untill at least Service Pack 1 is released, too many bugs especially with games at the moment it puts me right off buying Vista as I would definitly want the 64 bit version.
