new build - should I go for a i5

Hi,

I'm in the process to do a new build. Initially I thought i will use a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR (85 £) with a Q9400 (146£).
However, you can get a Intel Core i5 750 for 143 £ with a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R for 140£. So the difference is only around 65£.


It seems the Q9400 route is not a good choice but I would appreciate your thoughts.

In addition, any good cooler for an i5. The Noctua NH-U12P is 17£ more than a year ago !.

PS: i'm not planing to over clock or gaming.

if your not oc it then you might aswell use the retail cooler or get the cheapest one possible really mate tbh

You can't use the i5 with an X58 mobo.
You need something that is socket 1156.

Personally I would go for a cheaper motherboard , something along the lines of this -
