Hey all,

Got my new system built and working but I have a couple of questions

1) The motherboard tempreature is showing as -1C or 31F any ideas whats going on there?
2) I Have set the XMP settings to "Profile 1" so that the memory runs at 1600Mhz, is this the correct method as it was only running at 1300Mhz before?
3) While windows XP was installed the CPU sat at 1.6ghz 95% of the time, having installed Windows 7 it shoots up to between 3.3Ghz and 3.7Ghz quite a lot, is that normal?
4) On the above subject, I have not overclocked the CPU yet, it is rated 3.3Ghz, why does it run at 3.7Ghz under load?
5) The CPU idles at around 35 - 40C, and seems to hit about 45 - 48C under load is this ok for overclocking? Aiming for around 4.5Ghz
6) Should I be using the "Intelligent Energy Saver" mode of the Asrock software? It reduces the Core Voltage a fair bit and makes the CPU run cooler, but is it safe for overclocks? An Exampe, right now it is sat at 1.6Ghz, using 0.888V.

Then the big one:

7) How do I go about overclocking? I notice there is an automatic "Turbo Mode" where I can select 4.6Ghz should I be using this or just set the mutiplier to 33? Also in the Maximum Core Voltage it has "150" written by default.... What should I set this to? Mostly I am worried about setting up the VCore, I do not want to be frying my chip!

Thanks guys!

What's your full pc spec?

1) what software are you using, could be looking at a sensor which is not there.
2) sounds fine
3) That's normal this is Intels Turbo Boost operating.
4) The CPU will as it's turbo boost, increases the CPUs multiplier when needed for extra performance.
5) Temps sound normal, overclock and see how you get on.
6) Not sure, I personally would not bother.
7) If this is the motherboard I thin it is then several members have used that, but I tend to prefer manual overclocking by increasing the CPUs multiplier.

Full spec is:

i5 2500K Retail
Asrock Z38 Extreme4 Gen3
16GB Cosair Vengeance Blue
ATI XFX Black 6870
Cosair 650W PSU
Cosair H60 Cooler
Samsung Spinpoint F3 Hard Drive

Think thats everything?

1) It is the Asrock Extreme Tuning software, also reads the same in the BIOS, I could be wrong but I swear it was reading an average 33C earlier, but having left the PC on overnight to update it is -1C *EDIT* Never mind, its back to normal and showing 27C Now.... Weird!
4) If it overclocks itself anyway, is there actualy any point in me overclocking it myself?
7) If I do, I shall do it mysef then, however I am still unsure on VCore settings, and what to put under the setting with default "150"

Thanks for the help!

Ok, I tried via the auto overclock just to see if it would run at 4.6Ghz, it booted into Windows but when running prime was drawing about 1.38V from the VCORE which is a bit much if I am correct in thinking?

I tried to take it down via the Asrock overcock tool, but went to far and caused a BSOD at about 1.25V. Then booted into the BIOS and tried Manual overclock at 4.5Ghz, 1.25V but this caused the PC to stop booting, and I got scared and just reset the CMOS.

I am not sure what settings I need to change at all for Manual overclocking bar the VCORE and Multiplier so could well have done something wrong.

You went too paranoid setting it to 1.25v(too low for 4.6v unless you have a chip with a super low vid :) ) should have dropped it down a notch to 1.35 instead tho I think 1.38v is fine.

have a look in the overclocking section for advice, you should be good to upto 5ghz with the h60 tho would say 4.8ghz for 24/7 use.
