Hi all,

im looking into building my first rig in about 3 - 4 years, I will mainly use it for gaming, surfing the web, web design. The problem is im a bit rusty with what to buy etc. I've had a nose around the forum and came up with this.

Western Digital Raptor 74GB WD740ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache - OEM (£104.56)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail(£215.01)

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) (£205.61)

HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H195PRQT256DD-R) (£135.11)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (£121.01)

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
(£99.86)

2 * Akasa AK-183-L2B Amber Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin £ (£23.38)

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (£16.44)

Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case - No PSU (£103.38)

Pioneer DVR-111BK 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM(£21.56)

EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£192.69)

Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey(£610.99)

Plus £24.09 shipping

Total = £1878.93

Once the price drops a bit more I will be buying buy a 8800GTX. What I wanna know is can I change any of the components for cheaper items without compromising the performance?? . I will be looking to overclock, but would also like a fairly future proof machine(if thats possible?? lol).. I was thinking of getting a DS4 instead of the EVGA, what would be the better buy??

Sorry if I've rambled a bit, I would really appreciate any advice..

Cheers

Ricky

Looks good mate.. I'd only drop the Raptor and put the money towards your 8800 card.

I have a raptor as my primary drive and it's made no difference to performance what so ever.

Also, is there really any need for the 680i mobo? An ASUS P5W which will do just as good a job. Again saving you a few bucks.

But then he'd need to spend the 15 on a decent fan, although it would be better than stock.

The Artic Cooler is already listed in his spec list :)
