Hey Guys & Gals,

Been a long time since I last posted and even longer time since I last specced and built a PC... My last build was an Intel Q6600 System :o

For the same(ish) money is there anything you would change?

Ryzen 5 2600X Gen2
ASUS ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 3000 MHz
ASUS AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB ROG STRIX
2x Samsung 970 EVO Polaris 250GB M.2
Antec 650W NE650M Power Supply/PSU (Already got an old Antec Quiet Case I'll be putting it all in)

£1080.88 inc VAT

I'll be running VM's hence the 32GB memory and using it for UE4, Fusion 360, Photoshop etc Game and CAD Design stuff.

Thanks guys...

Well, that Antec PSU is nearly as old design.
(hopefully case isn't as old)
Would recommend modern PSU, meaning 80+ Gold.

Bitfenix Formula is the cheapers with quality capacitors.
But it has fixed cables.
Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro is semi-modular, though usually you can get fully modular Seasonic Focus Plus Gold cheaper.

The PSU I've specced is an 80+ Hybrid Modular... not sure why this isn't a modern PSU :-/

Whats wrong with the case being so old? It's an Antec Sonata

Personally I would go with a cheaper board, something like the MSI B450 Tomahawk and up the cpu to the R7 2700.

Also works out a bit cheaper to get a 500GB 970 EVO.

In any case wait for CES this week and see if AMD announce Ryzen 3xxx.

The MSI only has one M.2 Slot, the reason why I've gone for the ASUS and two 250GB 970 EVO's is so I can run them in Raid 0.

Good shout on waiting until after CES though ;)

Thanks Lee completely missed that!

Even the most expensive ASUS board only has one x4 speed M.2 slot....

Will two running in RAID 0 still not be better than just one in the x4 slot though?

Edit /

Just been doing some reading, and I think you are right, I'll get a single 512GB NVMe for now

Thanks EsaT very informative!

What do you think to the Corsair 200R Carbide cases and Corsair 650W TX650M Gold Hybid?

Going to ditch the AMD GPU and go with the announced Nvidia RTX2060 at CES I reckon.

Incorrect the Asus Crosshair VII Hero can run dual NVME drives in RAID0, Wendell at Level1Techs did a video on it, the only caveat is the primary PCI-E slot needs to run in x8 instead of x16 but for 95%+ of video cards that’s not an issue.

To the OP I think you need to go back to the drawing board a little

I'm not saying you can't do RAID0 but isn't the 2nd nvme slot limited to X2 speed, same as the ROG STRIX?
Just hold fire as long as you can, the new Ryzen chips could be a game changer and will be announced soon

Yeah I'm going to wait until Feb now and see what the market is like then, I don't want to wait any longer than March to build the system though.

Depending on what AMD announce at 5PM today, I’m now leaning towards this system.

Should last me for atleast 2years...

MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 5 Six Core 2600X 4.20GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon V2 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (CMK32GX4M2B3
Samsung 970 EVO Polaris 500GB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive

Going to see how it runs with my old case and power supply, as I’m not too bothered about efficiency. If the temps get too high I’ll replace it.

Edit/ Change of plan......

Ok what do you think of the following as a budget system, should keep me going for 12 months and if not will look at upgrading as and when. I don't see the point of spending anymore with PCI Express 4 etc coming out next year.

AMD Ryzen 5 Six Core 1600X 4.00GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
ASUS PRIME B450-PLUS (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Gigabyte Radeon RX 570 Gaming 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2B30
Samsung 970 EVO Polaris 500GB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive

£643

Edit / Change of plan I've just ordered the following... comes Friday :D

Ryzen 2600X
ASUS B450 ROG STRIX
ASUS RX 580 8GB
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB)
Samsung 970 EVO M.2 500GB
Antec 650W Gold Modular
Fractal Design Focus G Mid Tower

Came to £908.34 with next day shipping

Too late now lol With the announcement of the Radeon VII yesterday, I’m sure the VEGA’s will drop in price once released later this year.

This is just a stepping stone system, will look again next year when Ryzen 3rd Gen have been released and PCI-E 4.0 is being utilised etc

just give them a call and amend if needs be , good jump in performance from rx 580 to vega 65 .

dont think prices would drop as RX and Vega are well under the £650 proposed pricing at Vega VII.

if flagship Vega VII does match rtx 2080/70 then AMD could release at least 2 more Vega cut down chips to hit RX 590 pricing until polaris style 7nm comes out etc

The RX 580 should do me for now, as long as I’m getting 60fps in Unreal Editor I’m happy.

I’ve taken the day off work so I can crack on when everything is delivered :)

Made a Windows USB Boot stick last night as I don’t have a cd drive anymore haha

Thanks for the heads up on the VRM issue, my RX580 isn't a STRIX though just the bog standard ASUS one... fingers crossed the temps aren't too bad!

Have to say the Fractal Design case is just bloody awful! Feels really cheap for the money and I've never had to use a pair of pliers before to fit motherboard stand offs

Getting Windows 7 Ultimate to install too has been a ball ache! Just upgrading to Windows 10 Pro now
