Hi there,

Building a computer for a friend.
He doesn't need Windows, doesn't need any peripherals.

Budget - £450

Already has an HD 6850 GPU, but nothing else.

drop the cpu cooler from the list.

swap the xfx psu to the ocz one.

go for the Intel Core i5-3450 retail processor instead of the 3570K and the Gigabyte Z77-D3H mobo.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £167.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-DS3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £74.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) £69.98
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £54.98
1 x Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller - Black £44.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £43.19
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket LGA2011/1366/1155/1156/775/ AMD AM3/AM3+/AM2/AM2+/FM1) £26.39
1 x Sony Optiarc AD-7280S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.98
Total : £513.49 (includes shipping : £12.50).

I know it's over but it's worth the extra cash. You could drop to the i3 but do try and keep the Z77 mobo

The OEM i5K is cheap on offer and is basically paying for that excellent heatsink thats on offer too ;) The Z77 mobo allows overclocking of the i5K and lucidMVP boosts the GPU (6850) with the CPUs IGP. Quick sync uses the IGP to boost video encoding tasks :)

You can see it's only £10 more to double the HDD capacity. The PSU I used is modular and has enough juice for a single GPU setup. The case is packed full of kit too, I own one myself and am happy to recommend it.

Hope this helps.
