New Build Spec

Well basically the above, got £1000 to mess around with over my aging computer. I need pretty much everything bar monitor(19" but will be replacing it in a few months or when i've got the cash to do it) and keyboard/mouse/speakers are sorted aswell.

I play quite a few games, so will mainly be used as a gaming machine.

My current spec's are letting me down a fair bit, 2500+ barton clocked to 3200+ speeds, 1gig ram, rad 9800 pro etc so need a big upgrade which will last me a few years.

Truthfully though is a quad the way to go? I know they are dropping in price, maybe not as cheap as the e6600 but would it be worth it over a duo considering that im mainly gaming would the other cores actually be usefull to me? Also i'd need a good heatsink.

Yeah i know the quad is dropping in price, don't get me wrong but won't the other cores not be used at all? Which will be a waste, hence me asking on here for helping choosing a spec.

I was all set for a e6600 a few weeks to a month back, still am actually but with the quads coming down quite a bit it changes things. Im just thinking that a quad will be wasted for what i use it for. Maybe if i did programming or designing other cores would be more usefull but i don't really.

See now that looks good, but no seperate sound card, no heatsink etc. I can't at no costs go over £1000 due to the fact im trying to save but making it hard for myself.

Who told you that? Depending on what Res you play at the GTX is above any GPU out their, and is not just clocked a little above the GTS.

Yeah pretty much playing games, surfing the net a bit of web page designing etc. Nothing major enough to make use of quad cores. Is it worth waiting until the 22nd still for the e6600 or maybe e6700 or get it now?

I might be thinking of the ultra lol. Well im sticking with my samsung 19" atm, in the future will upgrade it but my pc needs more of an upgrade than my screen atm.

Do you think it would be an idea to get 4gig ram, or stick with the 2 gig?

Well i think i'll go with the spec that stickroad suggested then. Is the noctua a good heatsink then or would something else be better?

Just a quick check once again. Will the Noctua fit on the motherboard suggested properly? If not which will?
