New Build - SSD Help Please

Hey, ive just built a completely new system, Ive got an intel 80gb SSD and a 500gb HDD. The plan was to only connect the SSD first, and set that all up properly, ive connected all the wires to it but what should i do once the power is on?

Thanks, Will

Well what is the problem you're having? You probably want to install Windows after switching the power on. As a side note, I see no compelling reason to only connect the SSD initially. You should be able to connect both without trouble.

i meant more, what do i need to do in regards to setting it up in the bios? or should that be automatic? and for now ill just connect the SSD, easier for me

You need to set AHCI in the BIOS otherwise it will just run at SATA 150 speeds.

If you're not running Vista or Windows 7 you'll need to press F6 at install time and then load the AHCI drivers from a floppy.

Yes, you need to format it. Basically, don't get sidetracked by the SSD bit - it's a hard drive and you need to just do what you'd normally do.

Assuming it's a legitimate copy, I'd be very surprised if you have a bad Windows 7 DVD to be honest.

What motherboard are you running? Have you made any RAM speed adjustments at all? Is it overclocked and are you 100% certain it's stable?

I think the suggestion of loading the BIOS defaults sounds very sensible.

Should i turn off "Speeding HDD" ? and also do i need to format the SSD before installing windows?

Assuming it's some form of ASUS RoG motherboard then you need 2 identical hard drives plugged into the Speeding HDD ports for speeding HDD to work ie. it's software RAID0.

If you've plugged your drives into the Speeding ports, plug them into normal ports as that may well help.
