New build, stuck on Bios

Hey,

I've just built a new computer and I believe I've done pretty much everything correctly; like all the fans are working etc.

I'm unsure where to plug the optical drive and the SATA hard drive though? On my motherboard there are SATAIII, II, I, 0? and some GSATA ports but I don't know which ones I use?

Anyway first time I booted it seemed to be good but when I booted again it kept saying BOOTMGR missing press ctrl-alt-delete to restart... and I couldn't get into the BIOS it'd just sit on a black screen.

Now something else has happened and it is just flashing the sort of load/bios screen and then going to a black screen (still turned on and seems to be running fine)

What do I do?

Thanks,
SK

im guessing you havent installed windows yet that would explain the bootmgr missing the optical drive should go into the sata2 ports. do you know what your bios key is? if so when you turn it on keep spamming that key til it appears then go to your boot order and put the dvd drive as first then your hdd second after that put in your windows install dvd and install it will do the rest

Right I think I have optical in SATA2, and I have been spamming 'del' as that is the bios key and it just wont appear? Just black screen. But I'll try again.

GIGABYTE GA-H61MA-D3V, yeah they're plugged into correct SATA ( Hard drive SATAIII, optical SATAII) and it just flashes bios start up screen and then straight to black screen? It is possible I've missed out something essential in building a new computer - so don't rule out anything simplistic!

Thanks

whats the rest of your spec ?, (mobo , psu, cpu, graphics card, hard drive, memory)

if your running a graphics card, does it it a power connector plugged into it, if it does is it secure.

Motherboard is GIGABYTE H61MA-D3V, PSU - Antec 450W, CPU Intel i3 Core 2120 processor, Graphics card MSI Radeon 6850 HD Dual Fan, Hard Drive - Seagate 500GB SATA, Memory - Corsair 2x2GB

I have tried pressing 'del', 'f12/10/4'; the bios load screen flashes for a second and then straight to black, video card power cable is securely in place and I have tried it with and without the graphics card and same thing happens.

I bought everything a few days ago, came today and I built it today - I think the PSU is new, I can get an exact model number if needed?

When I turn on the PC I just get a little flash of the load screen which is just a graphic saying something 'bios' and then it goes straight to a black screen.

But on my first boot it was fine I just thought I needed to clean my windows disc, second and next few boots it wouldn't let me go into bios and kept saying Bootmgr is missing press ctrl-alt-delete, and now the boot screen just flashes then black!

I've probably done something really stupid.

i understand the windows installation thing if there is no OS on the hdd it will just say bootmgr is missing but i cant understand how it's gone from that to a black screen the only thing i can think if is checking all the connections like is the graphics card in correctly are all the power cables in right especially the 12v and the big 24 pin cable

Yeah I'm pretty sure the power cables are fine and graphics card is definitely in there and I've tried it without graphics card and I get the same response.

The only thing I did change when it started going to black screen was the SATA cables, currently I have hard drive plugged into SATA III and optical into SATA II is this right?

if you touched it just make sure its seated properly.

if you put the cd back into the drive does it try to boot off it ?

also try swapping the sata cables from the back of the cd/dvd drive into the hd and hd into the cd/dvd.

having the drives plugged into sata 2 shouldn't cause any issues.
