So the target is £900-1200, I'd like to be able to play all the latest games on the higest settings, or close to the highest. I'd like it to totally boss minecraft with ultra realistic textures, skyrim with a few HD mods, crysis series I've been a fan of so would be nice to hit this on the high settings. The girlfriend may do some sketchup and some AutoCad, but nothing too demanding.

The intention is to add another 970 in a year when the price has dropped a fair bit. I would like to have a little play with overclocking both the CPU and the GPU, but no intentions of becoming an OC champion. No intentions of having multiple screens either.

The computer needs to last a few years.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £259.99
Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit £161.99
Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £139.99
SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 850W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £109.99
Cooler Master CM-690 III - USB 3.0 ATX Case - Seidon Promotion Free cooler Master Seidon £99.95
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE120BW) £54.98
Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-221LBK DVD Rewriter - OEM £13.49

GRAND TOTAL = £1156.87 (inc VAT and delivery)

Is it possible to get better for my money? or perhaps get the same level of performance for less money?

I will not compromise on the following:
The computer needs to last a few years
Cooler Master CM-690 III (or do you think I'm just spoiling myself with this one?)
I dont want a big bolt on fan cooler like a 212 for example. So something like the Seidon is perfect.

Little list of games I have the intent on playing in the near future and I want this computer to totally bo$$ the shizzle out these:

***STRATEGY***
Total War: Rome 2
Starcraft 2
Command & Conquer series 2013 onwards? old tiberiam wars
Godus
Chaos Reborn
The Banner Saga: Factions
plants vs zombies 2
Planetary Annihilation
Clockwork Empires
Castle Story
Folk Tale
Skulls of the Shogun
Banished?
Civilization V

***ADVENTURE***
The Cave
Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons
Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards: Reloaded

***SIMULATION***
SimCity
Minecraft with ultra-realistic textures
don't starve
prison architect
Cities in Motion 2
The Sims 4?

***Misc***
Carmegeddon reincarnation
Mew-Genics
Skyrim with mods

***point and click***
The Journey of Iesir (point and click)
Haunted (point and click)
Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller (point and click)
Deponia (point and click)
Captain Morgane and the Golden Turtle (point and click)

Thanks in advance to anyone who adds their 2p, all suggestions welcome. Hopefully I have given more than enough info on what I want to achieve from this build.

Thanks,

ChubbyPickle.

have a look at the NZXT H440 its £10 cheaper and IMO looks hella better but each to their own. Rest of the system is fine and will see you through more than likley to end 2016 maybe 2017

Operating system - I'll be using a CD and Key stripped from a "write off" computer I picked up for 50quid. Will be using windows 7 for now.

Already have Keyboard, mouse, screen and sound system.

I have 2 x 1tb HDD.

So will this bundle be better than what I have already got on the list? Does the 50£ saving mean more or the same performance for less money??
1 x EPIC BUNDLE: Intel 4790K, Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7, Kingston 16GB 2400MHz Kit, Superflower 750W PSU & FREE STUFF!! **£50 SAVING**

This does look like a good deal, but isn't it lacking in performance?
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £74.99

You say 750W will be enough for SLI 970s, but what about if I want to try my hand at some small overclocking on the two 970s and the CPU?

That bundle price is epic.

All that for so little.

750W (its a good PSU) will still allow overclocking.

the 256GB SSD wont be lacking, the jump in performance from 128 to 256GB models within the same family are substantial.

Even a 650w would be fine for a small overclock on cpu and 2 x 970s, since the power requirements on the new 900 series have seen a massive drop. But a 750w will give you a nice safety margin and better operating efficiency. Nothing wrong with getting an 850w except that it's not needed and the money can go elsewhere.

You can also do better than the Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM for less cost, with the Avexir Golden Blitz that has better timings (10-12-12-31). I just installed some Blitz yesterday for someone. Good stuff.

The below motherboard has a 5-year warranty and the bundle knocks off some of the cost as well, so perhaps you could even go for a Sammy 250GB SSD if you don't feel the Crucial will be sufficient.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£35 Saving** £354.94
1 x Avexir Golden Blitz 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U24001008G-2BZ1SE) £149.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £99.95
Total : £614.47 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Those Golden Blitz do look pretty good, they even go nice with the yellow theme on the UD5H. I think I will swap the Corsair for these. I really appreciate the suggestion, thank you.

For the PSU, perhaps 850w is overkill. I'll consider the 750w, but which is better the leadex gold or the golden green?

As for the SSD, to be honest, it's purely going to be for the OS. Would there be any performance increase if games were to be installed on to it also? I read a few tests and the conclusions were somewhat indecisive.

Install what you can on the SSD, games and CAD etc.

128Gb fills up so quickly these days its scary as games are just getting huge.

Whilst this bundle does look pretty good,

Is the Gaming-7 a better board than the UD5H?
Is the Kingston ram better than the corsair and avexir already in the build and suggested?

Just look at the price differences.

A complete board+cpu+ram+psu+extras bundle for a great price.

there is nothing the UD3H-BK and UD5H-BK do that the Gaming 7 doesn't.

I don't mind paying an extra 50quid if I'm going to get a better quality, better looking and a better performing board and ram.

Surely Gigabyte haven't produced 3 motherboards there that are identical?

Theres nothing "better performing" one isn't going to give you fast results than another out of the box.

The BK have a 5 year warranty vs 4 of the Gaming7

I just did the comparison chart for the Gaming-7 and the UD5H (not the BK edition) and there appears to be next to nothing in difference.

Would there be any effect on me and my intentions when one board is 8 phase and the other is 12 phase?

You'll get decent overclocks on both boards, unless you're going to the edge of the world on OCs you should be fine with both :)

(More power phases means better power delivery to the CPU put simply, more phases = more balance when overclocking)

Imo the BK is the better board (5 year warranty, and the BK club where you get access to giveaways and stuff) but that bundle which stulid said is way too good to ignore
