i have an old 478 p4 and motherboard with agp that was part of my old (2 years old) build that im gna throw together for my mum dad and bro to use (need a new (cheap) box and screen amd a copy of XP home).

the graphics card is just until the Dx10 ati cards come out (r600) of course! im a crossfire guy! (never liked nvidia... dont know y?)

and the power supply is gna be needed if i get two of those (r600) bad boys!!!

and i like the p5w dh's features (and its crossfire) and 975 chips are good i do believe!

i was goin to get the pro but the HIS was outta stock and the sappire didnt exhaust and neither does the powercolor so i bit the bullet and thought well for an extra £30 i might as well get the XT (its not wasted tho cos i have another PC to put it in wen the r600 eventually hits the shops!)
and to i didnt look into the power supply bit.... the galaxy comes with a 6 pin i think (rathere than the old 4 pin) but i didnt know the r600 (and others) need an 8 pin... is that right then?? will i need to get a new power supply!?

and to comment on the screen... i got the samsung bordueax (spelling??) 32" lcd tv not so long ago (from OcUK of course) and the new monitor (samsung 931c 19") matches perfectly! its fate!
lol

+1, If he's going all out he should atleast get a 24" Dell or bigger.

i dont like widescreens, prefer the square, did see the 20.1" dell (being the biggest on OcUK (unless im mistaken)) but didnt see the point in the extra money (twice as much)! (and its out of stock!)

Get a GTS as a minimum if you're going to be going quad core. Having an X1950 with a Kentsfield doesn't seem right. :(

The x1950 is only for the short term... long term is to wait for the ati r600 Dx10 cards!! and possibly crossfire them!!!!

well too late now i placed the order yesterday, but as mensioned earlier the x1950 is just temporary until the ati Dx10 cards hit the fans (tehe) and i went with a slightly better version (the XT) because i can plonk it into my current PC in replace of my x800.

cant wait till tomorrow tho, hope it comes first thing!!

You don't see the point in spending a bit extra to get a decent monitor to use the full potential of your rig, yet you can justify spending £650 on a CPU?

i think the samsung 931c 19" with a 2ms response time is good enough for me
and like i said i dont like widescreen monitors much, so the biggest on OcUK is a 19" otherthan the 20.1" dell

so forgive me but i think u are wrong!

its for video encoding and multi tasking, and games on the side,
and i have a 32" HDTV hooked up to it so i dont need a widscreen monitor.
19" is what i like!

sorry of you all think im bragging but im not, i just thought that a few of you "overclockers" might be interested!

okay let me justify this again
currently i am using an old 975 motherboard pre conroe its a p5w-d2 i think
with that i have a 3.6ghz p4 clocked at 4ghz, an x800gpu with windows XP 2 raptors and a WD500 and 2gb ddr633 corsair xms2

i am keeping this system in my room (just moving it out of the way for the new PC)

so i need a whole new PC

Requirents
Crossfire
asus motherboard
4gb ram
quad core pro
guddish ati card (to be moved to the other system later)
new hard drives (i have bought 4(2x 150raptors and 2 storage WD500))
antec 900
some cables and cables tidy kit
a 19" monitor

Explaination
only need 19" cos i have a corner desk and with 2 pc's on it its gna get crampt and i dont need to see everything all over the place cos i can swap between windows and thats the way i like it! OK

i use lots of "heavy" apps like video encoding p2p defrags virus scans, and i like it done ALL AT THE SAME TIME so i want a quad to help with the multi tasking. i do play games but i dont get a lota time to and im not too botherd about absouloutly fabulous graphics on a massive screen.

ive also got some peripherals with included in the price and some parts for an old system i am puttin together for the family (including another 19" screen)

so personally i dont think i have overspent or wasted the quad core cos i will use it quite well. additional to this its not the end of the world that i dont like widescreen monitors and i can change my mind in the future!

the 32" tv is used to watch vids on and is more than good enough! (and TV primarily of course)

and finally to the guys who think i should have "spec checked" with you all, if you look at my post hostory i made numorous comments over the months i was considering this build so if you are saying i still got it wrong well whos fault is that then!

probly not, but im not a fan of nvidia, i like ati, so the option of crossfire pleases me more. and i already have two "monitors" connected (19" and 32" tv) so if i wanted to multi screen i would need a new card.... crossfire. definately want a Dx10 tho!

ok maybe you misunderstood what i was saying, i already have two "monitors" on one card, and if i wanted anymore (multi screen) then i would need/want another card. obviously i wouldnt need my tv on all the time, and with the 2 other monitors i could easily disable one (and the TV)and take advantage of crossfire mode. (back to the widescreen upgrade arguement) also notice i only mension 3 monitors in total. which leaves room for the crossfire link and the other 2!

so i am not misinformed at all,
and i chose the parts because they meet my needs,

so whats the problem,

i wasnt posting this spec for advice i just thought for a second that some of you might be interested in my new rig, how wrong was i!!!

I can still get a bigger monitor, just because i bought a 19" monitor now doesnt mean i cant change my mind, for the minute tho its all i need.
like ive mensioned before i prefer square monitors, but im gna have to adapt eventually cos they dont make bigger (mostly)
im not definately gettin crossfire either, its just an avenue i would like to keep open, for example if i decide i need a bigger monitor.

i was really excited about this but i think ive had all the fun knocked out now!

3k got my the pc in my sig and a 40" 1080p lcd. says it all really lol.

My 32"

if u actually look at the spec i have spent the 3k on much more than just one sytem, this completes my new buld and an old build and leaves me lots of server space and gives me 3 computers rather than 1,

and i havent got or am getting crossfire, i said i wanted the option.

how is it overkill? i had many discussions about weither to get a quad, conclusion yes, vista uses a lotta ram and i use a lota apps so 4gb ram y not, i got lots of hard drive space as well as raptors (im not new to raptors i have two 74gb 8mbc) case, cables all careful thought, i would have got a cheaper x1950 but most were out of stock at the time so i thought *** the hell, power supply... i have bought 3 in the last 2 years good ones and each time it because they were deficent in something, pcie new rails whatever, thought i might as well get a good one to last, (hopefully) monitor, like PC-M said personal preference,

i posted this spec for the ppl who had advised me over the last few weeks, i didnt expect to get ripped to bits about it!

forgive me if i have offended any of you. like i said i was really excited when i placed the order i think you all have sucked the fun out of it for me!
