Finally decided to replace my old system but could do with some final thoughts on my new spec...

I will mostly be using it for cad, rendering and photoshop as i use my 360 for games now.

Oh and before someone points out the obvious I don't require a gpu as i intend to use the 7600gt i already own!

RAM - Thats a lot to spend on 2GB, you can get 4GB for the same price although your need a 64bit OS.

PSU - A bit overkill, the Corsair 520W will be plenty.

Rest looks okay, although you could get much cheaper RAM and a slightly cheaper motherboard and get a Quad Core which might be useful for multitasking although the CPU you picked is still very quick.

It looks fine basically although you could easily use a cheaper motherboard and Ram without issues (Gigabyte DS3R P35 and any cheaper PC6400). The PSU is rather overkill when the 520w version will be more than sufficient. I'd also note you have 2 CPU coolers in there. :)

Just one final point to check, your 7600GT is PCI-E isn't it? It might sound a stupid question but you might be surprised how many people overlook that sort of thing.

cad and rendering....really dont need the expensive ram. an old stuff will do. the more the better.

as stated above, get 4gig for the same price. it will pay dividends.

work machine or play machine (I appreciate the CAD statement, but work CAD or fun CAD???)

Thanks for the advice on the power supply i deliberately went for the more powerful one to check to see if i really needed one that powerful. 520w it its then.

The 7600gt is PCI-E but thanks for asking though. When you say two cpu coolers i take it you mean the one that comes with the cpu. I have decided to go for the freezer 7 pro as i assumed the stock cooler would be louder and less efficient.

Was thinking about going for 4gb but don’t want the problems people appear to be having with Vista 64bit. Any recommendations on a lower priced 6400kit or are they all pretty much the same?

Oh and for Lozza the cad is for work and university!

Check your screenshot, QTY: 2. :)

Ah i see now good spot what a muppet, good job its not the cpu lol.

Now trying to decide between the abit p35 and the Gigabyte DS3R P35 as they are around the same price. Dont know why but i've never been a fan of the colour of the gigabite boards but thats just me being picky.

Just about got the spec sorted now based on everyones comments. I have one problem though I have realised that the boards i was looking at do not have two lan ports like the ABit P35 pro, which i use to run my xbox 360 through my pc.

Theres not enough free sockets on the flats router to plug my 360 in :( (well not without pulling somebody else out!)

Might have to go with the P35 Pro after all

You could buy a separate network adapter such as this one for about £6 or about £15 for a gigabit model (bit pointless if the rest of the network isn't capable though). This is an extra point of complication though I suppose and does use up one free PCI slot. :)
