brother is having a new build:

so far we have in his basket:
ASUS p5q
q6600 (get one that it will guarantee to hit a certain speed? As I heard the latest q6600s clock terribly).
artic freezer 7 pro
4gb 1066mhz ocz ram
4870/260
a case (any will do I assume it just depends what he choses).

he already has a tagan 480w, a sata2 hard drive, mouse etc etc

He knows there are to be no more core2duo cpus released, so the cpu he gets may as well be a good one that will last as long as the motherboard will.
Should he get a q6600 and clock it? Or get a different cpu (if so please say which:)). PC will be for internet, messenger and gaming.
Also which gfx card? we are thinking the 4870 with the special cooler on - it is i nthis week only.

Definitely go for a 4870 over a GTX260. As for the CPU, E8600 is a very nice chip at the moment :)

dual's are faster
quads are slower per core (only out perform quads in things like photo editing) and as such duals are better for gaming :)

would recommend an e8400 as they are going for £110ish and you could just clock up to the 8500/8600 speeds to save the cash

Oooo also make sure you get 2gig sticks of ram and dont bother with 1066, just get 800mhx and clock upwards again :)

Will make him get a dual core then if I can:)
The ram will be 2 x 2gb sticks. I have 800mhz ones, and just said get the 1066mhz ones just for ease of overclocking.

stock graphics
may as well - its cheaper and with it being ati its the reference design - so will clock just like the others
