I've got £300, plus what ever I'd get for rig in my sig to go on a new setup

BUT...is there any real need to upgrade? Was thinking the i5 route but is there any real need.

Use current rig for gaming (MOH, COD, Starcraft etc) and internet browsing. All works fine and good frames but case/air flow is an issue just now due to crap case.

I was going to keep the 460 GPU and I'll be getting a new case for Xmas from the "better half"

I'm thinking, if I go down the i5 750 route, I'd need new mobo, new RAM and new PSU and new cooler.

my current mobo won't clock nor the ram clockable as it's crappy stock stuff with a prebuilt rig I got a couple of yeears ago.

Should I keep the 9550 (C1 stepping) and go for a new L775 MOBO and better RAM and just clock the 9550 to 3.8ish? Also would need a new cooler as artic pro wouldn't handle OCing the 9550 ...maybe a H50 or H70 as new cooling?

decisions decisions :(

Your current psu should be fine for a single gpu setup if you do fancy upgrading.

No point.
If its running games fine save the money and wait for SandyBridge and AMDs new architecture.

In the mean time, spend £70 max on a case (Such as Coolermaster HAF912 Plus or a Coolermaster CM-690 II Lite Dominator) to solve the cooling issues you were speaking about.

IMO the 10-20% increase you're getting there isn't really worth it, especially considering you aren't experiencing any slow downs. I would get a better mobo/cooler for now (And the new case for Xmas) and overclock it a bit.

If you really want to upgrade it now then go with RJC's build.
