Hey

After many of years gaming on PC's when I was younger then growing up now (24) I moved away from pcs as you do with everything going on in life. After Owning a Xbox 360 for many years it’s not really the same. I have been reading up on the forms with everyone’s build etc and really starting to get the itch to start gaming again on a PC.Some of the new games like BF3 look really good so I think over the next month or so I want to build a new RIG.I want to use it mainly for gaming maybe word processing and surfing the net

SO .... I need some help from you guys I have a keyboard and mouse but I need to spec a new build plus monitor. I have around 500-600 quid to spend and also looking to Overclock the best I can

I got my heart set on a Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor but just wanted some of you guys to spec me a rather decent gaming system for the money

Cheers

Ignore my build, i forgot about a monitor doh! R088ieS86's builds below are better - Also i agree £600 is prob not enough for a i5 build :(

Hey guys

been looking at the 2 above rigs and they seem rather nice spec. Think i am able to adjust my buddet to around 700 mark now for a full rig. Is there anything else whats worth swaping in this new build. I was going to suggest changeing the monitor

IIyama Prolite E2273HDS 22" Widescreen LED Monitor - Black

what you think ??

Looking to get the best rig for around 700 mark then hopefully get it ordered this week :)

cheers

I wouldn't skimp on Robbie's first build though. If you can replace the screen with the Iiyama while keeping the other components, then great. I would probably replace the optical with a LG, I just had too many problems with cheap Samsung opticals.

Not liking that motherboard either, but getting a better mobo (GD53) is quite a step up. The PSU is fine with that GPU.

cheers for the advice... what motherboard do you thinks best. I have also heard storys regarding this new BIOS PPI (if thats what its called not totally sure ) but thats what i am looking for ??

Well, the 'best' motherboard without going crazy would be the Asus P8-Z68V.

Then a step down would be the P67-GD65, MSI P67-GD53, then the AsRock Z68 Pro3, then the Asus P8P67LE which I wouldn't use if I planned on overclocking. Then again, if you are not gonna overclock, then a P67 and 2500K is a waste of money in the first place.

So my opinion, that P8P67LE is kind of pointless although it does allow 15% overclock, may 30% but I wouldn't bet on its reliability if you have to push a lot of volts to the CPU (which iirc is not easy through the BIOS). The GD53 is a much better board, even without considering SLI / Crossfire options (which in fairness, is a little gimped due to the placement of the front case headers right under the second PCIE slot). The Asus Z68 is a step up still on quality imo.

All in all, for budget builds, the GD53.

As for the examples, I like the case for looks, especially for the price, I prefer it to the CM Elite. Although it could use another fan (like the CM 430), which you can buy later for a fiver, and I don't know how well it copes with dust or its airflow performance (given that the front is a solid cover, and it's a bit 'airy').

The GPU is good, the PSU is good but will be short for a more meatier video card (6950, GTX560ti, GTX570).

Ok here goes then. Also if i was to overclock this spec what will be i looking at maybe .. 4.5ghz? also maybe looking at a 2nd GPU card in the future so SLI etc

Looking at this spec

The 6770 is a 5770. There's a MASSIVE difference in performance with a 6870. It would be like comparing a 5770 with a 5870.

You will be getter off with this.

Although I would much prefer to see a 6870. This would be a £750 budget. The places you can skimp would be the optical drive, saving £16 if you can magically produce one out of thin air, the screen, going back to the Philips, getting a 500GB drive, getting free shipping... And well... that's about it. The PSU is bare minimum, so is the case imo. That's basically returning to Robbie's first build. Which is £700 with free shipping.

Oh yeah, a few points I forgot, since you seem to be struggling for a decent budget.

- BF3 is not out for another month. Bide your time, try save some money, get a computer closer to launch. If you can get £750-£800 by then, then great. You'll also get a better idea about what graphics card and CPU (2500K most likely) works best.
- Also if you are a student, check if you can get deals on Windows 7. That's eating a big chunk of the budget.
- And finally, if you have a 1080p HDMI TV, you can use that for a while and get a proper screen later. It wont be awesome for text reading, but it will be usable.

PSU is a bit pants, change to something from XFX,corsair,OCZ,antec, lepa.

you could also get the OEM version of the CPU as its quite a bit cheaper.

for the RAM get the HyperX Blu which is on offer.

with the money saved, you could probably get a HD6870.

any reason for the wireless mouse?

would take the BeQuiet over the CM GX. It's actually a 450W PSU (iirc).
- I don't know about the Blaze set, but I would either get something locally that you can try, or the set down there. You can probably save a few bobs here, but I like that keyboard (I use it at work), and that mouse has had good reviews.
- The P8P67LE wont do XFire. And I wouldn't go past 4, 4.2GHz on that board. The GD53 can do 4.4Ghz if you so wish although in my opinion, not necessary right now. Can do xfire with the caveat above. Going Xfire, you will need to change the PSU anyway.
- The 6870 is on pre-order, so you'd have to wait until it gets in stock.
- I have kingston HyperX (8GB) ram, and can't fault them. Good price too.

With the budget in consideration, ideally, that would be it.

But the core components are what I would say the minimum for any enthusiast gaming. Or maybe some AMD, but you don't really want to go there right now :) 2500K is best and best value CPU by a mile, and the board is great all-purpose. MSI also offers 3 years warranty in the UK, which is always nice to have. As for the missing fan at the back of the case, you can get some real cheap, or even for free, salvaging from another machine.

Again, look where you can save on decent peripherals for the build, and transfer the savings on a better case, or just saving money. Since you have mouse and keyboard already, save for later?something like this maybe.
