I sold my last desktop machine two and a half years ago to fund a month long expedition to Malawi in the summer of 2007 with Team Challange expeditions. It was great, really worth doing. Since then I've been using just a laptop.

Until yesterday. I somehow managed to persuade myself that having only 2gB of free space on the laptop was justification for building a desktop machine, rather than just upgrading the hard drive. So, yesterday afternoon I ordered this:

It should arrive at some point this morning. I may take some pictures of the build and post my thoughts on the build on here, depending on how much time I have.

The graphics card should be a bit of an improvement on the 8600M GT in my laptop, yes?

Edit - I didn't order that. I've uploaded the wrong screenshot somehow! I changed the case to an Antec 300, the hard disks to Samsung F3s and the mouse to an MX Revolution.

Very nice. I did a similar thing to to Mongolia a few years ago, totally worth doing. Looking forward to some pictures! :)

You may notice a slight difference.
Slight ? Your joking right, it will be a massive difference, all of the components and peripherals together mean a higher frame rate and higher resolutions. One thing though did you not buy a cpu cooler ? If not be careful when OC.

OK sorry about the delay in posting pictures. Last week was the week after lectures finished, so I had a mixture of both lots of work to do and lots of fun to be had. It's turned out to quite a nice machine. Certainly an improvement on the last desktop I owned - it has 24 times as much memory!

Rather than include pictures in this thread I'll link to a blog post I made that has a gallery - click on the '[View with PicLens]' link on that page.
