Hi.

Building my new monster tomorrow (big upgrade really).

Ditching the following:

FX 60
2GB XMS Pro 4000
Asus A8N SLi Premium

For:

Q6600 G0
Asus Striker Extreme 680i
2 X 1Gb Crucial Ballistix 5300

Plus Existing Stuff:

Akasa Eclipse 62
2 X WD Raptor RAID 0
1 X WD 400Gb (Storage)
Gainward Bliss 8800GTX (640/ 2150) SLi
X-Fi Fatal1ty
Asetek Waterchill Xtreme Pump
Custom Ressy
Custom Block
Triple 120mm Rad on Swiftech Radbox
Dell E207 WFP
Creative Gigaworks T20 Speakers

So whadda you reckon? Any finnicky settings I should know about?

I used to run OcUK Tech Dept so I know what I'm doing but its been a few months since I've used a 680i board and clocked the nuts off it.:D has much changed?

Cheers:)

680i isn't really the board of choice for overclocking at the moment :p
Thats the first thing I can add. Unless you are going to get SLI you should have got a P35 board.

How have you got the triple rad mounted on your Eclipse? - any pics?

Old Piccy mate and poor quality (Mobile Phone) Got my old 7800GTs in on the pic and dual 120mm rad. Not fitted the triple yet but mounting it on the same Radbox

Also, speaking to Gibbo in the shop yesterday and saw same setup I'm building @4Ghz on a tuniq tower! Hardly a poor Overclocker IMHO.:D

Fair enough. I'll believe 4GHz on a quad with a tuniq tower when I see it. Going by the temps of W3bbos under water I can't see it happening at all.

Using a switech radbox mount for my PA120.2, not quite as solid as I would have hoped for, will be reinforcing it at some point, especially before I travel for my next LANparty.
Not quite sure how it would cope with anything bigger.

Can't really base overclocking potential on just a board, cpu and cooler though mate - some serious knowledge, skill and voodoo needed too :) Not to mention PSU & RAM settings and choice. I had one upto 3.5GHz prime stable (X4) on a freezer 7 pro on an evga 680i when I worked with Gibbo :)

I'll post some benchies on Sunday - then, once you lot have posted - the real tweaking starts! :)

The 680i will limit you to around 455fsb, 500 if it's a good one.

I hope you have beefy PSU for those 2 GTX's ;) 4 PCI-E cables.

It's just one of the many screenshots I've kept as I like to look back after time has passed and laugh at the prices :D

Out of interest why did you go with a Asus Striker Extreme 680i mobo instead of the Intel route? I've seen some good results with that board mind but I've also read about a lot of people having problems getting the most out of a quad-core using the 680i.

That combined with a large pricetag was enough to curb my interest in it.

PMSL:D Nice one!

Got a great deal on it mate - too good to refuse. Also, I've had over the years, pretty much all the extreme ocing kit, especially mobos. Don't think abit are as good as they were back in the socket A days....DFI have lost the plot imho.....Asus have always been good to me....great stability and overclocking etc...my FX60 is running at 3.2GHz on my SLi premium, prime stable, and has been for well over a year now.:D

Snap! Well if the parts all arrive :)

lol - called into OcUK on the way home from work. (Local mate and ex Tech manager:D) Been sat drooling over them since I picked them up last night but had a mega manic week at work so I'm waiting until tomorrow to start work on it (The missus is going out for the day with her sister who's coming over from nottingham to see us....and I'm staying in to play!!!!:D Reckon I'll be in the dog house tomorrow night...lmao

Good luck with the build and I hope your parts arrive OK;) What did you get by the way?

Built yesterday......not had a great deal of time to spend on it today but.....
