Right then folks. Got a friend building a new comp, the spec as follows:
E2200
Gigabyte ds3r
3gb pc2-5300 Crucial
Generic 9800gtx
Corsair hx520
200gb hard disk
dvd-rw

Unfortunately, having installed and connected everything, when the button is pushed, the system comes to life and then dies a second later, not even making it to a boot / bios screen.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Having finally received his components today my friend was eagerly expecting to play with it tonight, not be on the phone to me weeping for it to work. :p

I know its a bit of a vague question but I figured ocuk forum members were more than up to the challenge.. :)

Ensure all your power connections are good, including your 8pin ATX one from PSU to mobo, a few ppl new to building comps forget this one. Also make sure CPU fan is connected and you remembered to remove plastic cover from the connection plate, seen this left on before too.
If all connections are good then only thing to do is swap out each component at a time
Id recomend starting with PSU, then CPU then RAM

thanks for the reply. its now powered on (he'd connected the four pin cpu connector when he didnt need to) - but now it won't show anything on his monitor. current thinking is the 'bay sourced mobo is broken. The gpu fan is running but thats psu powered...
