New build turns itself on and off repeatedly

Board, CPU, 1 stick of RAM and PSU and the PC stays on but outputs nothing?

Tried a different GPU at this point to see if it outputs anything?

I *think* it stays on, when I fully built it it sounded like the disc drive kept spinning up and down like it was rebooting but the lights on the motherboards are static. The GPU is old and was working before.

Got another GPU handy, so you can rule that out? Or maybe try the GPU in a known working system? Seems bonkers, but at this point I wouldn't rule out anything!

Try all the DIMM slots with different RAM and PCI express slots, rule those out as being the problem.

3 boards dying/same issue seems unlikely so worth ruling out other components.

Yes, if you have another RAM kit, try that out. It sounds like that's one thing that has been kept the same even though you've changed DIMM slots.

Omg it was the RAM...

What is it about the RAM I bought - Team Group Dark Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - that's incompatible?? Fortunately we've got another i7/X99 system that I've taken two sticks out of and it works fine but I obviously need to replace the sticks in full.

There's two possibilities. The RAM could be faulty, which would cause the issues you've experienced or the RAM isn't compatible. It's quite likely that the RAM is faulty.

X99 can sometimes be funny with RAM that's not on the Qualified Vendors List though.

Good to hear it's sorted.

Is it likely that all 4 sticks would be faulty? I guess it's from the same batch if they've been delivered together.

Looking through MSI's compatibility list (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/X99A-SLI-Krait-Edition.html#support_support), I've cross referenced maybe 40 sticks of RAM from Overclockers and the only set I can find listed are these: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...el-kit-red-cmk32gx4m4a2666c16r-my-425-cs.html

Can't be right surely!

Mobo manufacturers won't go through every set of RAM on the market and list them, so usually most RAM works with most boards - either your board/RAM just don't like each other or you've got faulty RAM

I believe that RAM on the QVL is memory that the board manufacturers have tested and approved for their product. Shivy has hit the nail on the head - there are so many RAM kits available, that manufacturers won't go through everything on the market.

You can use any RAM providing it's the right spec and it should work. In this case it hasn't. Now you could have four faulty sticks, but it does seem odd. Maybe you should try something different maybe Corsair/Kingston this time, but aim to get a quad-channel kit.
