New build unstable

just got my new hardware and have done a fresh install but the system is very unstable locking up on windows when i am instlling windows updates ect
tryed to install WoW and cod4 but same happens
i have everything at default inc bios ect

event viewer is not giving me any errors

any ideas ?

system specs are

MSI K9A Platinum
Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Black Dragon
Radeon HD 3870 XT Extreme
160gig sata h/d
psu is a 500w jeantech

above is all new

running windows xp pro

Check the voltages in the BIOS, they are probably too low.

Memory voltage 1.90 default setting

yea double checked all fine

i have tryed both sticks of ram separately running 3dmark06 for up to 10 times in a row both sticks works fine

just tryed upping voltage to 2.0v and trying with 2 sticks of ram the system run 3dmark badly and locked up just before end

one thing i did see in the bios was ddr mem freq is set to 400 should that be 800 ?

nah 400 is right.

just noticed the psu is a jeantech, heard of their cases, not much about their psu's, if you check the bios and maybe software like everest free edition and check the voltages on the rails make sure they look stable and not too low.

what shows seems ok, try looking for everest free edition 2.20, think it will give the 12v as well.

have you tried installing anything with just 1 stick of memory in ?

system works fine with one stick in, i am able to run 3dmark ect with either one of the sticks
but crashes with 2 sticks installed
