New build up and running...

It's speedstep. CPU speed drops down when the pc is'nt doing anything and ramps up again under load.

A clean install would be most advisable.

Stop panicing about cpu-z. If you think the cpu looks underclocked that most probably because you took that screenshot when the system was idling. It displays in realtime, run a video in a small window and you will notice it change as it steps up.

You really do need to do a fresh install. The irony is all this faffing around your doing is probably gonna take longer than if you had just done the install instead. Like i said running before you can walk ;)

If you are still having issues we can rule out drivers most likely and look elsewhere for a solution.

Thats your problem then, fresh install would have saved you a lot of time and hassle.

Not really, the time it would take me to back up a few hundred gigabytes of stuff before installing would probably take a while anyway.

More news... the PC just completed 3dmark 2011 with no issues. It only scored 3797 however it thinks that is in line with other similar specced systems.

Well I went though a lot of driver changes etc since initial start of thread and I tried repairing wow. And it seems it was successful, its running fine now.. touch wood.

thanks for input folks, think ill get a PSU next month anyway just to be safe.

Maybe ;) but Ive still thus far dodged my windows install lol. Ill actually reinstall windows tomorrow, Ill backup files tonight while i sleep.

You know I was right......the consultation bill is in the post :D

Enjoy the rig, just remember slow and steady wins the race, don't go cutting corners

AMD are recommending 500W themselves, you are still suggesting a new psu as I had already said. I think that is a bit premature, i'm leaning more towards driver or a corrupt installation of wow if another game/demo is running ok.

The OP seems to be trying to run before he can walk so to speak. I would install the new drivers and run the 3dmark program. Let him post back what he finds.

*edit* explain what you mean by upgrade? What is old and what is new? Did you reinstall windows for this mobo? If you didn't that is highly advised. Saying that windows asked to be reauthenticated leads me to think you didn't

Yeah. That figure is a load of crap - just look at some benchmarks and ask users on here.

Considering that's with an overclocked Bloomfield i7 - which uses a lot more power than the 32nm SB i5 I fail to see what you're on about regarding close to limit.

OP, clock looks low because you have speedstep enabled :p

Can you get a screenie of the memory tab please?

EDIT: Beaten because of family dinners :D

Granted that's them playing it safe. Let's be honest if we had spec'd that build and had to include a psu we wouldn't have advised a 400W ish PSU. I understand where you are coming from and posting the benchmark. Seems a new psu isnt necessary but if the OP wants all new throughout the build I wouldn't blame him.

As i said i thought blaming the psu was premature. I knew something was fishy when windows needed to be reactivated. Seems to be a ok now thankfully

I would :p

My HD6870 recommends a 500W PSU, I ran it off 300W for a while before moved up to a 530W - simply because it was on offer and means I could CF in the future.

Kinda proves me point fella lol Had he needed a supply we would have pointed out a 530W or 600W SLI psu.

Stulid spec'd a 530W Bequiet psu in a thread i was on earlier this morning, it worked out around £40ish I think. Bargain and was SLI, 80% efficiency. I mention this only incase the OP is still considering an upgrade.

been playing Wow for over an Hour at least with constant busy instant runs and its been great .

the mem tab as requested.

Now I gotta find ways to push it, tempted to try an overclock :)
