6 or 7 years since my last build I have managed to convince the fiancee that we need to upgrade/replace the computer. I'm not needing any peripherals, just the tower at this moment in time. The spec's of the computer that I will be replacing are: (don't laugh :p)

Intel Core2 Duo E8400 @ 3GHz
8gig DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4800 series
465gig harddrive
Tagen 480w PSU (TG480 -U01)

As you can see its in desperate need of an update. The computer is predominantly used for gaming. I'm pretty much out of the loop on the current tech, although I have been trying to catch up over the last week or so. This is what I've quickly put together:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Maximus VII Ranger - Devils Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£34 Saving** £369.94
1 x Asus GeForce GTX 970 DirectCU II OC Strix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99

Any advice on compatibility and changes would be greatly appreciated :)

I would save the money and go for a MX100 SSD
Will you be overclocking?
If so, I would advice an aftermarket cooler :)

Is there anything you particularly like about that case?
450D/Enthoo Pro?

8GB RAM should be enough, but anyway here goes :) This still has 16GB of 2400Mhz RAM so you should be good for video rendering/editing etc

YOUR BASKET
1 x EPIC BUNDLE: Intel 4790K, Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7, Kingston 16GB 2400MHz Kit, Superflower 750W PSU & FREE STUFF!! **£50 SAVING** £561.97
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 970 ACX 1.0 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (04G-P4-0972-KR) £265.99
1 x Phanteks Enthoo Pro Mid Tower Enthusiast Case with Window £89.99
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £77.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST3000DM001) HDD £76.99
1 x Raijintek EreBoss High Performance CPU Cooler Black £29.99

I added a cooler also which should allow for some decent overclocking :)

Excellent, thanks for the help folks. Doesn't seem that I was too far off, although I wasn't aware of the epic bundle deals, seems much better incorporating one of those instead.

With reference to the case, I quite like the aesthetics of the NZXT cases, I ruled it down to a few and let the missus decide which one in the end (I had to do something to smooth her over;))

And goody_GTI there will be a post going in the mm soon, I'll even give you a discount because I like your name ;)

As I am using the 3tb hd as a storage drive would I be better off getting a WD Red 3tb drive as opposed to the seagate? I understand that red's are predominantly for NAS but as it would be a storage drive anyway would I still get away with it?

The reason I'm in two minds against the seagate is that I've read some dodgy reviews with regards to reliability.
