New build/upgrade on a student budget

Hey guys,

Atm in my student house im running a,

AMD x2 939 4400+ (i think)
7950 GX2
2 Gb Corsair pc3200 (i think)
2 WD HDDs
Tagan 700w PSU (very new, old Hyper died).

Im looking to upgrade to a Quad core so i can run 3Ds Max and photoshop, plus lots of gaming such as eve online, tf2, l4d etc etc. Another age old question, ATi or Nvidia? dont think i will be going crossfire/SLI.

Ive got a viewsonic old 21' tft, cant find the same tft anywhere cuz mine is pretty old so posibly going duel screen aswell.

Anyone help me with a spec please?

are you planning in staying with AMD or going intel?. The Q6600 is a great quad core on a budget and the 9800GTX or 4850 look nice for the price aswell!
It depends if you want to stay AMD or go intel. Personally i would go intel and opt for the Q6600 in your situation!

intel seems to be "future proof" by the looks of things.

sell these if it really is a AMD x2 939 4400+ you could get £100 for it!!! :eek:

£20 for the ram not sure on gfx.

Whats your budget?

Am guessing i7 will be out but deneb might be possible.

Based on your games a 4850 will play them all nicely but ofc if your budget is bigger you could get something bigger such as a 260(216) or one of the upcomming refreshes.
