Current cpu and motherboard:
Abit KN9 Ultra with AMD 64 X2 5200+ clocked to 2.8 GHz
Ram: Crucial Ballistix 2Gb kit.
Possible upgrade: AMD 2.6GHz quad with 590, 780 or 790 chipset.
Not really interested in SLi or crossfire.
IF I go for intel then again a 2.6GHz cpu and affordable motherboard tho cash does not allow for a quad cpu.
Suggestions welcome.

budget is the most imporant and uses as jak says.

IMO if your OCing, then intel, if not, AMD

Overclocking at present but only because I could not afford an AMD 2.8GHz at the time so overclocked the 2.6GHz one to 2.8.
Will not be overclocking so was looking for a 2.8GHz cpu AMD but decided to change the board and go for a quad cpu as well.

For what I use the pc for the difference between a 2.6GHz and a 2.8GHz will not make much difference.
Photo editing

No games
Playing music.
Current MB and cpu will be used for another pc.
