Hi Guys,

My trusty rig is slowly, well, ermm, getting slower so I feel an upgrade is needed. She consists of:

Asus P7P55D-E
Intel I5 760 2.8ghz oc’d @ 3.66ghz
Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz Vengeance ram (2x 4gb)
HD6950
Seagate 500GB Momentus XT Hybrid drive
Seagate 3TB hdd
OCZ 750W Fatal1ty Series Semi-Modular PSU

It's done me well, runs most of my driving sims pretty well on the triples. Bits in bold I aim to keep, for now.

I am going to use the Vengeance ram, I know it's not the latest and greatest but hopefully it will suffice. I am keeping my existing optical drives, & the 3TB, but going to replace the Momentus. Hopefully the OCZ power supply will be OK for now also.

I am thinking of the:

Gigabyte Z97X-SLI + Devils Canyon i5 4690k bundle - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-006-GI

MSI Geforce GTX970 Gaming edition (I know peeps have had problems with coil whine, but my old Thermaltake case does a good sound proofing job so may take a gamble)

Crucial MX100 512GB SSD

Any other suggestions oh guru's out there?

Cheers, Shane

depending on how stretched your budget is, you could get a 780 instead of a 970 to save a few bob.

also, have you got a decent heatsink?

Hi Tamzzy,

Cheers for the reply. I was looking at the 970, just for the slightly cheaper running costs, (I am from Yorkshire, lol)

The cooler I have at the moment, again a few years old, but has run my oc'd i5 is an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler. Again, hoping I can bring this across for now.

Cheers, Shane

Im a guru.

You can use your current heatsink, just get new paste or something.

Are your drives all SATA as I see the old board has IDE available.
