Purchased an i5 setup this week to build a new gaming system for my son.
I bought the graphics card and ram from MM to keep costs down, put it all together Wednesday after work, all went OK just needed to get w8 installed, mobo drivers and then put away for Christmas.
Anyway, installed the OS got the mobo drivers on, did the remaining windows updates, got some basic programs installed too like coretemp and MSI afterburner. Rebooted, logged in and FREEZE!
Rebooted again , same again and again. Checked voltages and bios settings, seemed all OK so must be something else. Figured with having no lock ups in bios that it must be software related. I then read about Microsoft releasing some updates a few months back that caused lock ups.
So here we go again, reinstall w8, this time did one thing at a time, rebooted between each driver and software install until I found the culprit.
Was coretemp rc6 that has know issues with windows 8. I spent hours building and installing software for one piece of software to bring me to my knees, so frustrating. There is an rc7 version available but still it shouldnt be available to download knowing this.
Not just me either, plenty online with the same issue.
All sorted now!
