Hi I'm in the process of trying to configure my 1st ever gaming pc and have a rough idea of what parts I would get if I were to buy now. However, I won't have all the funds available until around Feb or March.

I'd quite like to buy some components before that time if I see any bargains that are too good to miss, but what's coming out that I should hold off for.

I'm thinking an Ivy bridge CPU and a Z77 motherboard to make the most of it. And then there's the new AMD and Nvidia graphics cards. Will there be any decent options out in the next few months?

If I was to buy from what's on sale at the moment it would be a Z68 mobo, probably an i5-2500k and a GTX580 with plans for getting another for SLI later on.

since you obviously can wait for ivybridge and the next gen graphics cards i would do. if you really want to get a deal before they are out though i would make it the processor, because the difference between sandybridge and ivybridge doesnt look to be as big as the difference between this generation and the next generation of graphics cards

I would reopen this thread again in January. Unless you see a rock bottom priced case as I'm sure a lot of tech will have reduced further by then. Although I'm not sure about HDDs.

That would be good. It's all new to me, this looking at components to build my own pc, so I wasn't too sure if prices would fall or not. Prices seem to be more variable with pc parts than with anything else that comes to mind. With the price of some items jumping up and down substantially on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.
