Hi,

Bought new parts and have built my new system. Its the following spec:

Intel Core i5 750 CPU
4GB G-Skill Ripjaw DDR3 1600mhz ram
Ati Radeon 5770 Graphics
Samsung F3 1TB Hard drive 7200rpm 32mb cache

This is my score in Windows 7 now..

SO it looks like my hard drive is the one thing letting my score down. Would an SSD improve it significantly??

Yes.

But it's just a number....

Samsung F3's are pretty fast so unless you think it slows you down, then don't bother.

I dont care at all about the number but generally speaking the increase in numbers does represent the difference in speed ive noticed over my old system. To have a hard drive that is nearly 50% faster again would be excellent!

Don't bother with Windows index, best bet is to run bechmarking software like HD Tach to check HD performance.

Win7 performance is pointless, I have seen graphic score drop when going to a 5870 form a 4850. That HDD is brilliant, large space, fast and reliable. SSDs are for boot time really, if you want faster boot then by all means get one, but not just to impress Windows lol.

for your information my 40gb intel ssd scores 7.4 on the experience index so if you want a higher number then ssd's would be much higher.

lol my celeron e3200 only scores 4.6 though so thats my base score :)

and my passive 2600xt scores 6.4 for aero and gaming performance so that really proves how wrong this test can be :D

Im in the same boat as you, my f3 brings it down a lot but hey, it doesn't matter, as mentioned, its just numbers.

I wouldn't worry about it, it reported my 5850 as 6.0 for about 4 days, then randomly decided it was worth 7.7.

Having said that, it was nice to upgrade to an SSD and see it say 7.9 for disk access...

...a much better reward was the decrease in boot times to about 15 seconds though. Large programs also open instantly.

Your scores are near identical to min and I am running an E6300, Basic Corsair XMS, Toxic 4870, and Sammy F3.

Just about every mechanical drive from a 500Gb WD Green to an F3 scores a 5.9 so I would't read into the score much.

Don't be thinking that 5.9 means your F3 is crap and slow, far from it!

Win 7 scores for hard disks can't go over 5.9 UNLESS it is an SSD disk or RAID config, except the odd one or two

Thats strange , your grpahics on your 5770 is 7.4 , i have a 5850 and only scores 6.0 , before i upgraded i had a 1950 pro 512 , and that scored 6.0 aswell?? maybe there is something wrong with the way i have set mine up , i just stuck it in a away i went , there is nothing else i have to do is there? as the graphics is my lowest score on my windows 7 score

No, don't worry about it. My 5850 reported as a '6.0' for some time, then randomly decided that it was worth 7.7 (when I retested after installing my SSD).
